Its reaaaaallllyyyy hard to get internet around here, stable enough to make an update let alone time and privacy to make content to post. So if the blog goes a little quiet, apologies ahead of time. It's nice out here but the way this "vacation" "family reunion" is structured is actually super stressful at times. Take care everyone.

to answer the duck's question, because it was originally designed for mining work. "jack" used to be mining slang for a rockwall miner, derived from the fact that most of them were immigrants from Cornwall, england, where the name 'jack' was common. rockwall mining involved using hammers to pound long spikes into the surface of the rock in order to create a channel where explosives would be placed, which would be set off to shatter a section of wall to get at the ore. this was a manpower intensive and very grueling work, and efforts to reduce costs eventually resulted in the pneumatic hammer, so that one man could do the work of a whole team of men and drive the spikes far faster. since they replaced teams of 'jacks with hammers" they became known as jackhammers.
