Followers on my twitter (why are you following that hell account?) have probably seen this already. It was a quickly done redesign for Batman but I rather like a lot of elements on it. I've done it again, and he's even leaner in the newer pics. I wanted to get away from how he's drawn in many of the recent comics as being super humanly muscly, like he could give the guys of Mr Universe a run for their money with how cut and gigantic he is. To me that's not very appealing and I don't think it fits the character very well.

There's this weird thing going on with DC comics and a number of the Batman side kick characters. You're almost supposed to tell how old they are based on their relative size differences. Bruce being the oldest, has at least one whole level of body mass above the next kid. And that's... weird. If you ever think about that in real life, it's not as if it has to follow that the father is the tallest of them all.

I suppose this is supposed to give you the character's relative ages when they're inside their costume but that seems unnecessary. And I think you can get a lot of visual interest by giving Batman a different physique than the other super heroes.

Like the general design, when you think batman you do think peak human, and that tends more to a dense body design, not bane/arnie, someone who moves fast, but if you try to punch your hand will hurt from no soft spots. Outfit is nice, but would go for a darker shade on the bat iconography on the chest and boots. You don't want gunfire focused there. Like it on the gauntlets as a lining but would be interested in adding it as highlights to the spikes(?). would focus his enemies attention on the fast moving spots and be harder to get a bead on the core. That being said, its a superhero, and I couldn't draw like this. So take it with a large shovel of salt.

I appreciate the comments. You always have some amount of push and pull when it comes to the practicality of Batman's outfit. The only one that gets longer conversations and arguments are Power Girl and Superman's underpants. This was, as I think I mention, still more Gatchaman than anything. So there's a certain amount of flair that you wouldn't have on a more practical design.
