So I finally watched all of "Kill La Kill," now that's a show that wears its ridiculous sexuality on its sleeve. It's pretty wild and I liked it a whole lot. It's a wildly crazy anime that succeeds with a lot of crazy technical feats of animation. It can also be divisive because it just plays with sex and "school aged" characters so willy nilly. It dives headlong past caring about whether or not it's appropriate and just plays with it.

It's something that happens a lot in anime, of course. But it's also something that happens in western media too. You have shows where "teenaged" characters are played by adults but have sex as high school characters on movies. And it's all very complicated. If we were to pretend that teenagers weren't having sex, that would be willfully ignorant and dangerous on its own. But that ostensibly teenaged characters appear as sexual objects in adult fantasies is a complicated thing to me.

I've always sorta followed my own rules in that, I know what feels skeevy to me and what doesn't. I think there's a lot of leeway there when it comes to art. Generally speaking I believe creators should do whatever they want. But I also want to be aware of the wider responsibilities and considerations that go into kinky and adult material. I don't think being "aware" of the issues, stops people from creating things. If anything it tends to make work better.

Sorry, that was a lot of typing. Basically I just enjoyed drawing Cassandra in a Kamui and think I could totally draw Lady Shiva as Ragyu. I'm not sure who would wear the other Kamui though...
