It isn't really nsfw. I don't think I'll be exporting a high res version of this unless someone is really interested in it.

So I got to a life drawing lesson! My first one in ages! Thankfully there's an art school in driving distance that has walk in sessions. They cost a little money so I won't be doing them every week. But I'm going to try to do them at least once a month.

It's incredibly valuable experience though. And after the session, I only felt like drawing even more. There are just a lot of things you miss when trying to draw from photo reference. There's the way photographs blow out or even out skin tones. In real life you can see where all the different tones change and how to exaggerate them. You get to see all the usual slouching and sagging and twisting that photos try to hide.

And then of course there's the value of motion and seeing someone in real life move in front of you. You understand the pose much better.

I did life drawing a long time ago for a class, but now with years and years of experience I know a lot more about anatomy and can appreciate what I'm seeing. It's one thing to visit a life drawing session but it's good to know more about where the bones are and what muscles overlap where.

All those years of experience have served to make me a much better student.

Nice! Have you heard of the Croquis Cafe youtube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/user/onairvideo )? They post weekly videos of a nude model in half hour spurts (five 1-min sessions, four-min sessions, and one 5-min session to close), with certain variations (speed draws, head/expressions and hands) Its obviously not the same thing as getting live experience, find that its a good way to stay in shape, so to say.

Yep, I've been aware of those. I haven't really used their site in a while. I think it's a great resource and it's awesome that they offer it. But it's still, at least until you get HD or VR type stuff, it's not quite a perfect replacement for real life sketching. One of the nice things you can do in real life is if you want to look at a slightly different angle of something, all you need to do is tilt your head or find another seat!
