I like the colors on this one. I started with those and then tried to build a small landscape scene out of it. The perspective came after and was drawn ontop of the painterly setting.

I feel like if I gave a shot like this, the effort it deserved, it could look really nice. The technique has merits.

One of the tough parts of coming up with backgrounds and scenery is that you can get mired in small details without understanding how they all piece together as a whole. Doing the background with general shapes and colors will be a lot easier than drawing each and every house one at a time. Even starting with the perspective lines might be a mistake as you want to know more about your composition before you start letting perspective dictate what you're gonna draw.

I added a question duck in the foreground but I think the scale is wrong for that.
