Reading at an open window is a futile exercise. The flies for one. The neighbors for two. The crying baby for three. But I do it for the Marilyn Monroe swish the breeze gives my floaty skirt. It’s that glide it does like a charismatic politician who enters a room and everyone looks up. He walks past you and even the air he’s left behind knows he’s been.

I do it because I’m waiting to see someone arrive at the hotel across the street. When I close my book, my colleagues will gather, arrest him and lead him away.
