This is the final for Victoria Aveline’s novel “Choosing Theo” I’ll post some process screenshots soon. It took me a while to get the color right. There’s supposed to be a round overhead skylight and I wanted green fire behind them. I thought I’d include some of the tattoo variations. I guess he can change the tattoos per his whimsy so it kind of fits. I started with the swirly jagged ones and the author said he favors more geometric designs. In retrospect I’m not super sure I’m happy with the ones on his knees; kind of reminds me of argyle, but, I needed this to be done haha. All in all, I’m happy with the rest.

I’m trying to decide whether I like inked outlines or lineless, flat/ cut paper look for finishing artwork and which will be faster for making comics. I really LOVE inking but sometimes I worry it’s too tight and loses the life and soul of the sketch. Maybe I’ll loosen up anyway when I start speeding through panels and don’t let myself get caught up in perfection. I wonder if the cut paper look sometimes seems more interesting because it forces the mind to finish pathways instead of feeding the viewer all of the information like linework does; unless I loosen up with my lines and leave gaps like Alphonse Mucha. I dunno, I’m going to keep testing.

Anyway I hope you like it! Victoria sent me her book so I’m excited to dive in and possibly make some fanart, after I’m done reading the 3 other romance novels I’m in the middle of right now haha. I wish I could plug a book into my brain and dream it while I slept. I could get so much done and I’d have so many wet dreams!

I hope you all are doing well. I’m a bit swamped right now so I haven’t been as active as I usually am. I got revisions for my daytime work all at once so I’ve been chipping away at that on top of normal family stuff and adulting. I’m always happy to escape into my imagination here with you and wish I could do it full time!
