Oh, that is why this show is so great upon rewatch. Once you rewatch, you'll notice more strongly that Spike has been obsessed with Buffy from the moment he appeared on the scene. Up until now it's been "I must kill her" and now it's turning into "I must kiss her." It's seeded SO subtly but SO well literally since Season 2. The way he teams up with Buffy, the way Drusilla broke up with him BECAUSE of Buffy, the tension between him and Faith in Buffy's body, all his little monologues about how badly he wants to kill her ... it's so excellent! Can't wait for more!

It's funny how people react completely different to certain scenes and give them different meanings. You're so covinced that this moment with Dawn before Joyce passed out means that something's wrong with Dawn. While when I first watched that scene it never crossed my mind that this could have to do anything with her per se and was convinced that Joyce had like a brain tumor or something. Some illness that caused her to pass out and that also affects her memory or facial awareness. So the theory you basicly dismissed at the end was my whole concern, nothing sinsister about Dawn. And Dawn's behavior in the hospital wasn't that strange to me either. She seemed concerned and a bit panicked when Joyce collapsed but in the hospital she hung out with that intern Ben, who will already have told her not to worry.
