God I'd completely forgotten about Michael McKean being in Friends! I guess what I really mean by that is, I've seen this episode so many times and even after watching Better Call Saul I never clocked that it was him until I rewatched this just now.

The kiss scene is ICONIC. It's literally on lists of most memorable TV moments. It was a bit too good to be true to be honest but the list thing frustrates me so much. Chandler suggesting it is actually classic Chandler but Ross going along with it and how Rachel found out it so dumb. Also, while I get it's for the comedy effect, I still find it hilariously annoying that Rachel doesn't realise Ross meant "She's not RacheL". Like come on! Btw, there is a deleted scene where Ross and Julie go get a cat in the shelter and Ross freaks out: https://youtu.be/w9C9_RUhBsY

calling Rachel spoiled, together with "just a waitress" is so incredibly hurtful for her, because Rachel is "spoiled" financially while actually emotionally starved for affection. And she's been trying so hard for year and a half to not be spoiled, to work, to be different. it is really hard to read such half-true judgements about your biggest struggles when you're trying so hard to change. She's trying to work and change and be more like her working class friends. To read that she's still seen as "spoiled" must feel like such a slap in her face after how hard she tried to become a better person with no one to support her except the friends. She can't yet do much more than be a waitress so using that against her when that's her way of not staying spoiled is so unfair. and "too into her looks" is also unfair judgement. Phoebe is also very much into wearing lots of pretty stuff and confident about her looks, but Phoebe does not follow mainstream fashion and her jewelery and clothes are probably cheaper than Rachel's. But Rachel having a passion for make up and clothes is okay just like it's okay that Chandler and Joey don't care much about how they dress. Phoebe showed many times on the show that she can be selfless and forgiving even though she's a person who loves to wear lots of pretty stuff, so using it as a character flaw is just beyond mean.

I always kind of wondered if Rachel would really want to be with someone who could just dump their partner so easily because another person showed up in their life? Wouldn't that just mean that if the "right" woman showed up, he would just easily walk away from her. Granted, the list thing was childish, but it happened because Ross was thinking deeply about what to do - he cared about Julie and didn't want to hurt her.. and Rachel's treatment of Julie from the beginning was not what I would call... idk, grown-up 🙄
