The directing style of this movie is so unique and personal, and unlike the other films in this franchise it feels raw and unsettling (not exciting).  Let me know what you think!

Love your reactions but this set of films..is such a rip off of the original it can upset my stomach lol. If you want a good film about the dangers a set of teens can be in under these interestingly identical set of circumstances, watch Battle Royale from 2000

I would say I’d be too but… 8 years unoriginal. It’s kind of like how Disturbia copied Rear Window beat for beat but Disturbia was better done then this series of movies or books. Maybe her and Shades of Gray author worked together. Sorry I’m picky but Donald Sutherland deserved better

The craft at the beginning is a hovercraft rather than a plane. Apparently, the atmosphere was so damaged that high jet flights are no longer possible. ETA: The matching game with Foxface--I think it's plant identification, which puts an interesting spin on her misidentifying the nightlock berries. I always read it as her deliberately taking the berries, knowing full well what they were. ETA2: The plot question was originally just supposed to be "What if you actually fall in love with someone you're forced to pretend to be in love with?" Gale was supposed to actually be her cousin; the publisher forced her to put in a love triangle because Twilight.

There are a lot of death game/kid death stories, some before BR, some after. BR doesn't have the same focus as HG (the media and war propaganda). Or of Lord of the Flies (the inherent evil in man). Or The Lottery (mob mentality). Or the actual folkloric basis of HG, Theseus and the Minotaur. Or its modern genesis, reality TV and live broadcasts of war. Squid Game is more akin to BR.

re your ETA2: I hate when publishers/studios interfere like that. Ironically the love triangle in Hunger Games is the worst thing about it IMO 🙄
