So a bit of a different direction for horror... I won't say much in case anyone hasn't seen it, but having watched the first three films, I recommend at least the first movie (my favorite and also the least violent by far in case some people don't care for lots of gore).  But I get inspired by what filmmakers like James Wan can achieve on such a low budget, and I think there's many reasons this film became as popular as it did.  Also, this is the first video with my friend Jessie, as well as her first ever reaction, so please show her some love!!

Was so excited to see you had reacted to this! The Saw franchise is one of my favourites in the horror genre. This first one is my favourite, I love seeing co-writer Leigh Whannell playing Adam and how he has such chemistry with Elwes. I always love watching any James Wan work, I don’t know if you’ve seen/reacted to Dead Silence, but I would definitely recommend checking it out. As far as this franchise goes, I agree that the first 3 films are a perfect trilogy that really wraps up all the narratives within it. The other movies do continue to further develop some of these narratives and tend to ‘retcon’ a good chunk of the story, but they are a fun watch and it’s interesting to see how the writers try to connect all 9 movies. They get pretty whacky as they go along, and Wan isn’t as attached to these movies so the quality is not the same. The traps are creative though and are a fun watch. The editing remains mostly the same thankfully, being one of my favourite aspects of these films, the editor even directed two of the later films which I found pretty cool, but you can see later films were more of a cash grab. The Chris Rock ‘Spiral’ addition is a fresh departure that tries to go back to the more thriller/mystery genre, which I appreciated but all in all, the first 3 are the best. Look forward to seeing the reactions to the next two movies and it’s totally your choice whether or not to do the rest but I’d love to see your thoughts on the franchise’s progression. :)
