I'm not gonna say that Ted is the worst step-father of all time, but he's the worst step-father of all time...

Fun fact; we in the fandom community once dubbed Buffy's attire as the 'Overalls of Sadness' and now I can't think of anything else when I see her in them xD your sarcastic comments made during the dinner scene cracked me up.

Nica Marie

The Captain and Tennille 70s/80s singing duo and married couple most known for the song "Love Will Keep Us Together". Sadly, it didn't and they divorced.

Salty Thor is the best 😂 - I'm not even half way but I've been cracking up at all the shade you've been throwing Ted - "Really? Is food for eating? This guy is just a wealth of wisdom".....Remind me never to get on your bad side hahaha. I'm really enjoying this reaction though :) As a kid I do remember Ted really freaking me and my sister out though...this episode definitely made an impression.

John Ritter played this character so well

I know you said you'd expect anyone to guess he wasn't human but, as someone who grew up with a (biological) father who could turn on a dime like Ted does in mini-golf, I fully believed it when I saw this episode last year for the first time in years. Nothing Ted did before the fall felt unreal to me, including the over-enthusiastic, everyone's best friend act to people he wanted to make a good impression on. Also, the way he shuts Joyce down and speaks for her, and the use of "little lady", is intensely uncomfortable from an everyday sexism perspective. I mean, it's good writing that it's so believable but not comfortable to watch.

The way you said "NOOooOO" after Buffy's mum says "You killed him" cracked me up so much, I had to replay 4 times 😂. Sweetest favourite moments: Willow's happy geek noises and Giles's & Jenny's kiss 🤗. Overall, I found this episode a bit weird, like you said "a robot looking for a relationship"?? Xander summed it up /gave an explanation in the end, but still... and Xander saying "he (Ted) built a better Ted". THAT was the BETTER Ted??? I don't even want to know what the human flesh Ted was like then. Anyway, agreeing with Effie^: lovely sarcastic commentary! 😁

I remember first watching the intro of ep and having the exact same "off" vibes coming from Ted. I also questioned the food that he was giving and saying "Maybe he laced them with drugs." I was surprised to learn that I was right.

John Ritter is fantastic. Miss him so much. You should check out Problem Child, and the sequel. Great movies with John. His son, Jason Ritter, is also a good actor. <3

I loved watching how now fiercely protective of Buffy you are. Remember last season when you were hoping Cordy would join the group... you got your wish this episode!

Thor got feisty this episode ;p

Flora Smith

Woah woah woah….Bill Hicks reference for the absolute win 🏆

A part of me wishes that Ted wasn't anything more than just an abusive and manipulative human being. I think the route that this episode goes down until the reveal is honestly pretty compelling from a narrative point of view. It would be the first human life Buffy ever took, even if it was self-defense. Would have loved to see how her killing Ted would have affected her and her relationships for more than just a few minutes. Loved your reaction, nonetheless!

« Nobody beats the machine ». « I’m not wired that way “. “Every home should have one” …..With all those hints I was worried you would guess that Ted was a robot. One of my favorite line in the show that I get to use in real life “I think the subtext is rapidly becoming text”.

What a treat to see John Ritter again. I remember him mostly as one of the stars of the wildly popular late 70s / early 80s TV comedy, Three's Company. Ritter was famous for his comedy and for being an all-around good guy. Watching him here, with a few more years (and pounds) under his belt, playing a villainous robot is hilarious - kind of like if Tom Hanks today reprised the role.

I am a single parent who has had to introduce my partner to my kid. Everyone has to do it in their own way that suits their family. I introduced my partner as a friend first. Then I talked to my son about how i was considering having my friend as my boyfriend and how that would make him feel and if he had questions. reassure him his dad and I are just friends now. and ask if he thinks this new friend will make me happy.

My dad wasn't really in my life much from the very beginning and that was something easy to accept because I never knew anything to the contrary. However, there is something about having your parent date that is still offputtingly awkward.
