I'm in the middle of watching this, so you guys may have already realized this, but the way the sheriff chose to treat Rambo wasn't because he didn't like the way he looked. I see why you thought that, Nick. Because of what he said near the start: "Looking the way you do." That wasn't what he meant. That line referred to Rambo's military garbs. He looks like a guy whom the sheriff assumed had been in Vietnam. The way he was treating him had everything to do with Rambo having fought in Nam. I don't fully understand the issue US citizens had with those who served in Nam, but I know a lot of people hated them. I've heard about how people called them baby killers, and Rambo mentions that at the end, but I don't understand the context. Anyway, the point I'm getting at is, the Sheriff looked at Rambo and instead of seeing a person, he saw a murderer who killed people in Nam. That's why he targeted him. That's also why he made up reasons to hurt him, like saying he resisted arrest, or saying he was just a drifter.

Great reaction, you two. But then, how could it be anything else? This is such a tragic story, and so incredibly sad. Can you imagine being asked to fight for your country, and serving because you think you are making a difference, then you get there and you're tortured, then you finally get out and come home only to be treated like a murderer because you did what was asked? Soldiers were trained to kill, and put through hell, and then condemned for it. It's disgusting. For a long time, i couldn't watch this movie because I found it too upsetting, but now I love it, and I'm glad to have had the chance to watch it with you.
