Week 285 - the Battle of Manila Begins - WW2 - February 10, 1945

The American advance on Luzon has reached the Philippine capital, and it looks like they have a real fight on their hands with the Japanese there. There are supposed to be two new Allied operations starting in Western Europe, but one is delayed by flooding. The Allies do manage to eliminate the Colmar Pocket in the west, though. On the Eastern Front, there are new Soviet attacks in Pomerania and East Prussia, as well as out of the Steinau Bridgehead to the south, and in Budapest, it looks like the Soviet siege might soon end in victory. My parents talked incessantly about their experiences during WW2. After watching Indy and Sparty's videos for 4 years, I have a better understanding of their attitudes. It is no wonder peoples attitudes in the 50's were biased toward simple and quiet, given what they had just been through.

Just thought of something guys. Wasn't it actually the 8th US Army that surrounded Manila and was in charge of the fighting there? I remember reading it was the 8th army that followed the 6th army in New Gunie and then on Luzun and being in charge of the fighting for Manila. This past episode made it out that the 6th Army was besieging the Phillipine's capital city.
