Week 260 - Hitler Has a Bad Day - WW2 - August 19 - 1944

This week the Allies invade Southern France, and do so very successfully. They're also successful in the north, closing the Falaise gap and trapping huge numbers of Germans. In the East, however, the Germans manage to stop the Soviet drive on Riga with a counter attack, and in Warsaw they continue to brutally put down the Warsaw Uprising. Thanks for another great episode Indy. I really like the pretend phone calls at the beginning of each episode. The content is always awesome. One little detail, that has nothing to do with the content, but just bugs me, is that the clocks on the wall behind you always show the same time. Maybe someoone could install batteries and set them.

The battleship Nevada was sunk at Pearl Harbor but raised, repaired, updated, and returned to the war.

TimeGhostHistory

We tell her story on December 7, 1941 in some detail in our Pearl Harbor minute by minute series. She was actually saved from sinking by the crew running her aground. Had she sunk, she would have gone down at a very hard to salvage position, blocking the harbor entrance, potentially making Pearl Harbor defunct for several months. It’s quite a heroic tale - well worth watching.

Fun Fact: George Patton once gave the chaplin of his unit a Bronze Star for writing what turns out to be a successful prayer to improve the weather in the part of Normandy that his troops were stuck in.
