Still, so terrible. Still, history that should never be forgotten. Still, history that should be a requirement taught in High Schools the world over.

Hi! I'd like to enlight the effort of an italian man, Giorgio Perlasca, who was part of the diplomatic network during the winter of '44. Entusiastic fascist during the '20s, joined Spanish Civil War, but later felt disappointed by Mussolini's alliance with Hitler. Moved to Hungary, worked as meat suppliers for italian army but with the collapse of fascism in '43 and the creation of Repubblica Sociale Italiana he refused to join Mussolini again. He was arrested but, due to the years spent in Spain, he was saved by spanish embassy and he started to cooperate with its leader, Angel Sanz Briz, to save as many jews as possibile. Later, when the spanish ambassador left Hungary, he faked to be is substitute to continue to operate. He even "stole" two young jews in the face of Adolf Eichman himself. He wrote in his memory that he prevent the destruction of Budapest Getto like the Germans did in Warsaw. Aftwer the war he returned Italy. He wrote to the institution but mainly his story remained secret. Even his family didn't know anything about it until the '80s, when Giorgio had a stroke and, believing close to death, decided to talk about it. So, from '90s to 2000s his story was spread, with books and a film; his acts recognised from Italian State, Israel, Hungary and historians. He died in 92. Hi, Spartacus here. I’ll be covering Perlasca in WaH later this summer as he starts work in Budapest. The main part of his effort will however only begin in November when he takes over from Spanish diplomat Sanz Briz, posing as the official representative of Spain.
