I would be very interested in an update episode dealing with German Industry in 1944. It's always a juxtaposition regarding how well Speer built up the industrial capacity compared to how poorly the tactical & strategic situation progresses through...spoilers...May, 1945.

ari

Can’t believe we got it this early damn.

If only 14% of the Army were the infantry, who were the other 86%?

Clark is definitely a prima donna. Instead of killing the Germans, he will stage a victory parade in Rome. Many Americans boys lost their lives due to his ego.

They could be other arms such as artillery, tank crews, engineers, etc., or clerks, signals, cooks, truck drivers, or all of the other hundreds of jobs that an army needs to function.

I love Indy's slacker voice- dude!

Not sure I’d go that far but the entire Italian campaign was a sh** show from the start.

My grandfather was a bomber pilot (B-26) during this period. General Clark was one of the few people who he openly disliked, and it made enough of an impression that grandmother didn't have a good word to say about him either.

I once read that (in Western militaries) you can expect somewhere around 10 support personnel for each soldier actually fighting. So 14% of the Army being Infantry would be a reasonable percentage.

Makes sense. I can imagine the ... ambivalent relations between people in combat and support roles.

Indy, I just became a member. Great content! Can you do an episode on why the Chinese army was so inept?
