This week most of you have probably been noticed that all our focus and pivoted to the war in Ukraine. Many of us are struggling while watching this news unfold, not least of which our Ukrainian team member, and are finding it difficult to produce videos discussing a war in the same cities 79 years ago. That is why we launched Into Context, a new series which puts current affairs into context.

Check it out on the TimeGhost channel, and let us know what you'd like us to cover next.

184 - Another Naval Disaster for Japan - WW2 - March 5, 1943

The Japanese again fail to reinforce New Guinea, losing many transport ships, and their forces there are ever more isolated. In Tunisia the Axis lose a bunch of new Tiger tanks, but in the Soviet Union it is the Axis forces that are on the offensive as Erich von Manstein's offensive continues. Based on the invasion so far, Putin could have used some military history lessons. Last I heard, the convoy to Kyiv has been stuck for three days because it ran out of gasoline. No, literally. It. Ran. Out. Of. Gasoline. How in God’s own name did Putin’s brass forget to pack gasoline? Thank God for autocratic incompetence, I guess.

Thanks for covering it 🙌🙌

Thank you for the coverage. Will check that out on the TimeGhost channel later too!

Thank you!

Don't forget: the troops were reportedly sent out with only THREE days' rations. Unbelievable.

I saw that latest video of Into context - hats off to Sparty for dressing in Ukraine national colors! And great, that you put it into context. Unfortunately all we can do right now is hope for a quick end to this war and support the Ukrainians in their country and the refugees the best way we can.

Please let your Ukrainian colleague know our family’s thoughts are with her and her countrymen during this unfathomable time. Let us know if there is more we can do to help.

Are you really certain that they ran out of gasoline? I am seeing much of propaganda from both sides, so it is quite difficult to determine what the truth is. And I sure hope they will find some agreement soon.

Eerie to hear names long forgotten to be heared again in another epic struggle playing out now. How different the story now when the villain has changed sides and goes in a ruthless attack against innocent people. War is hell and the Ukrainians face the gauntlet. Hope they will survive to lead again a happy life. To quote Spartacus: "never.........

I've been thinking of becoming a patron for a while now. Your recent vids on Ukraine made me regret not joining earlier. I don't agree with everything (Minor differences in opinion, don't worry about it), but you guys do good work. Tell Iryna I stand with her and Ukraine. I'll do what little I can.

What we learn from history.. we never learn from history. My thoughts and prayers are with Ukraine these days.

Great shot of a Pheasant at 3:46. Not the bird of course, the 17/25 pdr, and early nemesis of the Tiger and Panthers. :-) https://weaponsandwarfare.com/2017/07/31/1725-pounder-pheasant-tunisia-1943/

It gets even better. I've heard stories of military units using unencrypted civilian radios and tire issues from cheap tires and maintenance negligence. The civilian radios have led to Ukrainians interfering with Russian comm traffic and turning it into trash talk worthy of CounterStrike. (Yes, THAT much profanity.) And several farmers have made off with Russian vehicles.

Strange situation. I am a patron. I got e-mail with earlier access and... I am informed that I have to wait till 16:30 on Saturday!!!

Your comments regarding Ukraine are excellent. No one can possibly know how the Ukraine thing will play out. One can envision many possibilities, some are very bleak. We study history and often the outcome seems obvious with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, but in reality there are many random chance events that can alter the course of war. Your excellent coverage of WW2 helps bring perspective to today's world. I wish more of the "talking heads" on TV understood history.
