This week is action-packed, even if it isn't for the upcoming planned invasion of the Soviet Union. We see action in Syria and Libya, with mixed results for the warring parties.

Thank you all for your loyal support, and welcome to those who freshly joined the TimeGhost Army! May you find our community comfortable like a warm bath and knowledgable like a wise old owl. Or like whatever analogy you prefer.

Great as usual, I'm on the edge of my seat! Here's a portrait I have of General Hap Arnold, signed "To Bea & Ted Brooks, with best wishes and kindest regards", from my great grandfather and namesake's (Gen Edward H Brooks) collection. http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff490/TKempster/LTG%20Edward%20H%20Brooks/Portraits/Arnold_signed_zpsb9115222.jpg

I remember my late grandfather talking about the invasion of Russia, he was a schoolboy, although he would serve in lybia post war (he remembers a local leader saying 'the germans where men, the Italians where dogs!) One day at school his headmaster burst into the classroom stating 'We have won the war! The germans have invaded Russia!' Future events may put doubt into that statement but this is the first big ally to join the war since France, and isn't it a big one? Especially with no support from Japan for the third Reich.

Fun episode, but would have liked to learn more details about the campaign in Syria.

Very informative episode, thanks very much team ! I have never heard of the limitations of the roads leading into Russia, and the attendant difficulties for the logistic support prep being the actual cause of Barbarossa being in late June. And I have actually read a reasonable amount about the campaign too. I'll have to have a look at what else Keegan caught that other writers ignored or missed - at some point. Keep up the great work !

Greetings from Lebanon Joram! I’ve been watching WW2 since the beginning in 1939/2018, and I can’t tell you enough to what extent I find your maps accurate and impressive. I am Lebanese and I am naturally keen on the Operation Exporter because it deals with my country Lebanon and with our neighboring country Syria. I wish to point out to a history inaccuracy if you allow me. I noticed the merging of two concepts in your maps. On the one hand, in the general map of the Middle-East, only Syria proper is highlighted every time Indy briefly talks about “the Syrian campaign” (which in fact covers Lebanon too, including my hometown Mardjayoun, by the way). On the other hand, when Indy talks about it in details, the map shows a single imaginary country covering both Syria proper and Lebanon proper. Here I’d like to add a short history clarification note for the readers. It’s about the difference between “natural Syria” which was a concept used to name the Levant during the Ottoman era and “Syria proper” and “Lebanon proper” who are two States whose boundaries were inherited from the mandate system made by the League of Nations in 1920. The ex-ottoman provinces of natural Syria were put under the Mandate system, France being the great power in charge of Lebanon and Syria, whereas Great-Britain was in charge of Palestine, Transjordan, Irak and Kuweit. Therefore “Lebanon” was distinct from “Syria” in 1941. Until today, both countries are independent and part of the United Nations. Having said all this, I propose that you add the missing international borders and then, as usual, I tell you : keep up your excellent work! Sincerely, Rabih Rached
