The second episode of our history of pandemics series is here, and it's all about the Black Death. Living through a pandemic right now might give you a slight idea of what the people living in the Black Death's eras went through. Even though, 'slight' is probably still too generous, since the Black Death was grimmer than grim. But I'll let you find that out for yourself!

Now, the first pandemic episode aired a few weeks ago. A third one will air next week, before we move on to the Cuban Missile Crisis day-by-day. We might revisit the pandemics every now and then when we have a new video ready for you.

Thanks for your support!

Cheers,
Joram

Black Death Mystery Solved - Not Bubonic Plague - Pandemic History 02

From the day the Black Death starts to ravage humanity in 1347, there will be speculation about what it is. It will take until 2017 for science to give us a conclusive answer to the riddle how so many people could die so fast all over Europe, Africa, and Asia in only five years. Thanks, guys. Hope you're recovering Indy. At least three new things learned: We didn't know for sure The Black Death was caused by Y. Pestis till 2014, Murrain is a word I've never heard before and the Samalas eruption might have been a reason for the 13 century climate cooling.

I really like having the two of you in an episode together.

Minion

THAT intro! Love your work, crew.

Thanks for your amazing work, and another great episode!

Fascinating 15 minutes of joy, found myself singing "always look on the bright side".

I got chills when Indy explained the outbreak of the plague as if it’s an army maneuver.

Grim material, well-presented. I like the Huntley-Brinkley format.

But for the title, the first couple of minutes of intro sounded like a current news broadcast. I forget who it was who said that though history doesn't repeat itself it rhymes. The Black Death and COVID-19 both create havoc on human societies and magnify our best and our worst.

The best actors never look like they are acting. ALWAYS refreshing, invigorating, enthusiastic presentation! Great team work, all of you!
