Between Two Wars is getting to be "on the brink of a new war" and the closer to another war we get, the more we see the signs of what will come; the War in Spain and China impacting civilians more than previous wars, the Japanese crimes against humanity, the murderous inhumanity of the Soviet regime, and now here in Germany the persecution of the Jews. These episodes are tough. but they also represent one of our major motivators: to never forget, and understand our past to make a small, but hopefully meaningful contribution to that past mistakes don't repeat. In time of resurgent anti-Semitism, this episode is perhaps especially important. Thank you for your part in making  sure that it was made.

This just awful. I'm already at a loss for words to describe the brutality of Kristallnacht. The fact that it's only going to get worse is enough to almost enough to make you lose faith in humanity

Very timely for me personally because I'm currently reading an old book that's new to me, "Kamp Westerbork Transit Camp to Eternity: The Liberation Story" by Cecil Law. Cec was a young captain with the Mortar Platoon of The South Saskatchewan Regiment when they liberated the camp in April of 1945. None of the SSRs had any real idea of what the camp was for at the time. They were, quite naturally, focused on winning the war. They really only found out years and years later. It would be the only operational concentration camp actually liberated during the Second World War by the Canadian Forces, and it is barely even heard of in Canada. Nor is it widely known that our troops liberated the camp where Anne Frank stayed before her last trip, on the last train to leave there for Auschwitz. It was perhaps Canada's finest moment as far as our part in what would become known as The Holocaust. God knows our part in the late 1930's was not.
