Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a great, festive and safe turn of the decade. Next year will be very interesting, eventful and important for us as for many, World War Two will move into the 'mainstream' this year. We are planning to do some BIG things for certain events, but we will of course also continue to deliver the level of research, writing and presenting that you have grown accustomed to. We love that we get to do this together with all of you, and we are grateful for your support! Thanks you all for making history with us!

Cheers,
Joram

1941 begins with action in North-Africa and China, but Indy also takes a moment to assess the current stakes and stakeholders in the East-Asian theatre. The last couple of week have been a bit messy from our side - for which we apologise. We have a very small team and in between shooting and holiday festivities, our workflow got a bit shaky. Now that all of that is behind us, you can expect us to go back to our military precision. Again, thank you all for the amazing support! Cheers, Joram

Watching the breakdown week by week has been fascinating for a host of reasons. One for me is the slow burn as a few nations here and there are added to the conflict. Also going in real time you get a sense that there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. Indy ringing the bell at the end of the video was a non-history highlight for me.

You mentioned Evans Carlson, who deserves some additional footnotes. In 1942 he organized the US Marine unit "Carlson's Raiders" and brought the term "Gung Ho" into US military parlance. A WW2 era Hollywood film by that name (starring Randolph Scott) was made about his unit's famous raid on Makin Island and is available on YouTube.

Prince Philip spoilers!

Big fan of the added bell ring at the end.

Oh no, not eight Christopher Wren Cathedrals!

My Mum was a nurse in Dublin during those raids. Apparently it came out later that those bombs were very deliberately dropped on Dublin because they had sent some Irish Free State Fire Brigade help to Belfast following a visit by the Luftwaffe. The bombs were accompanied by a suggestion to the Irish government from the Nazis that if they wished to be neutral then they'd better keep their Fire Brigades closer to home - or else.

I'm so charmed to be the Patron of the Week! What are my responsibilities? I'm open to anything ranging from opening a supermarket to propping up a new faction in China.
