Hey friends! As the Winter War rolls on the only help the Finns are getting are from volunteers. The Western Allies still have their thoughts in Norway, little do they know that the Phony War almost ends this week...

Our workflow is getting more smoothly every week. Thanks to your support, we can hire dedicated editors and Eastory the map animator, who we think are doing a tremendous job. We're going to shoot new episodes next week, including some Between Two Wars, World War Two and (drum roll...) the first Out of the Foxholes episodes! And if that ain't enough, we have got some exciting new plans as well, which you will hear about soon! Thank you ever so much for helping us make history!

Cheers,
Joram

Would Swedish intervention have had any outcome on the war itself? I don't recall Sweden possessing a large army at this time, and besides the political implications (German intervention) would it even be possible for a Swedish-Finnish alliance to turn the tide?

TimeGhostHistory

They could have made a significant difference - Sweden had obligatory military service and could mobilise a substantial army at short notice if needed. They were also better equipped than the Finnish Defence Force, although also far from being true match to the Red Army in an open field... but in the Finnish forests, maybe. They mobilised one of the five combat ready combined divisions or 'armed services sections' at the outbreak of the Winter War - most importantly they had resources to produce and deliver armaments and equipment (which as we note in this episode were also allowed to go to Finland in a limited and roundabout ways). It is very doubtful, to not say out of the question that a combined force could have beaten the Red Army, but possibly hold her back even longer to build more support from the Western Allies. Strictly speaking Sweden was not neutral btw. They declared themselves a non-belligerent party in the conflict (too complicated a distinction for a regular episode, but we'll get back to that in respect to other instances of this during the war in general).

Did the Finns consider a counter attacks on Russian Soil?? Say a strike against Leningrad. Offensively, this would have moved the Russian guns back from the border, and probably given the Russians a good drubbing. Then the Finns could have withdrawn back across the border to lure Russians into counterattack ambushes.

I think there was comment in some episode that high command had no hopes for that realizing the force differences. They simply did not had resources to mount such attack. Atacking USSr territory meant to be placed in USSR place aka receiving end. Home territory and weather advantage was only reason they were still holding.
