this might be an 'unpopular' opinion but I kinda get where Diane was coming from. When she talked about the belle room she said she called it that because it made it sound magical and because it was a fake thing that she made up it meant that it was just hers, kinda seems like even though she said she always wanted one, she didn't mean literally. and that probably sounds confusing but I kinda get it? Because if it was something she always wanted I'm sure she would've found a way to make it happen, like directly asking pb for it when they bought their house, but she didn't and maybe it's because like she said she doesn't like big gestures. It seems like she just wanted to keep the idea of this place in her head but not physically because if it stayed in her head then it could be just hers and it would't be tainted with bad memories/experiences and even though pb was trying to do something nice I don't think he understood what she was trying to say by telling him that. Just shows how incompatible they are because he's the kinda guy to go above and beyond while Diane just wants a simple life with no big gestures:/

and what I mean by tainted, is that it seems like at this point they are constantly arguing all the time and everywhere and if this was a physical room I'm sure at one point or another it's somewhere they would've also argued and the magic of it would've been ruined. I feel so bad for both of them though.

I think some of the confusion could have been solved if she has just had opinions about how to build and decorate their house. Which it seemed like she was really avoiding. PB was totally right in his feelings that he doesn't want Diane to be a guest in HIS house, though he could have communicated that sooner. He was trying to do what he could to make it their house using what Diane had given him, which was very little input.

Very true!!! They both weren’t listening to each other, it’s not fair for him to compare her to his exes but that’s not at all what he was trying to do and Diane couldn’t just listen to what he was trying to say as well
