A commission of  an orthographic view of a cat OC for a 3D Artist.

THE CHARACTER

WHAT IS AN ORTHOGRAPHIC IMAGE?

An orthographic view is a series of images that describe a character from all angles.

HOW IS THIS USED IN 3D?

Once imported into a 3D rendering program, the artist can move shapes and vertices (anchor points) around to fit the orthographic image. The Image acts a guide.

This video is much better at demonstrating this: LINK

The character is female but the original painted reference showed a more masculine build. After confirming that she is indeed a she I wanted to push a more feminine body type.

A note from the commissioner with my notes (in red) alongside.

 Originally I went for a 'Teddy Bear' look. Smaller chest and larger waist - the C U R V E S.

Receiving some feedback from the commissioner, they requested that she was less 'Pear' shape and more 'Hourglass'.

The commissioner was happy. I cleaned the sketch ready for line art.

I drew one side of the character with the intent of flipping the image to mirror the opposite side of the body. Though this sound easy, you can get odd distortions when the image is flipped.

There was a few redraws while drawing the line art to fix derpy lines.

Once I had successfully mirrored both sides I created horizontal lines to ensure that I maintained alignment with all sides of the character.

Any areas that need tweaking are easily adjusted with the selection and transform tool.

The Transform Tool is YOUR BEST FRIEND.

Note: I did draw the spotty marking while creating each f the view.

This was fun. I really like the proportions of this character. It is really neat to be apart of the development of this website.
