This was a pretty open ended commission. All they wanted was their dragon and open to anything I wanted to do.

Their dragon OC, Deliciae.

I struggled a little bit while figuring out what I wanted to do with art piece.

I played around with a different poses. I decided what I was drawing wasn't working so I went to the internet to get some inspiration. Mostly around how to place the wings.

I thought I was getting somewhere with the dragon above.

Refining the lose sketch to something a little more structured.

I still wasn't happy with where I was going with the sketches and jumped between them for a while trying to figure out what I wanted.

I went back to the internet and saw several dragons drawn from the back - this I liked.

Cleaned up some of the areas around the face and at this point I was happy enough to start the line art.

I GIVE YOU THE LINE ART. I have noticed that my line art has become increasingly more thinner. Not sure if this means anything but just an observation.

Using the magic wand tool, I select the outside of the dragon, expand the selection by one pixel, invert the selection and fill.

Masking out areas and adding the additional colours to the dragon.

Using a soft edge brush I paint in some darker details to break up the mass of blue.

Using the Colour Layer as a selection mask, I draw and colour in the shadow. I chose purple for the shadows to keep the cool tones but also add a hint of red for fleshy tones.

Using the eraser I soften areas of the shadows.

Turning the layer to multiply and turning the opacity down to 25%.

Added small scale details where the lighting high points would be.

Added soft highlights under the scale details.

THE FINAL DRAGON.

Not the best wings I have drawn if I am to be honest. Over all I am really happy with this.
