Apologies for the lack of structure of this post. This commission was huge and very experimental piece so I didn't follow my normal art process. 

I happen to play with Clip Studio Paint far more than I would usually do.

COMMISSION DETAILS

Anthro Cadence (human feet) as a detailed crystal Armour/form in a crater shattered barely alive.

I started off by getting something on the canvas.

I had a pretty clear direction I wanted to go with this and how I wanted to pose Cadence.

 Her crawling towards the viewer, but still elegant and pretty - this was certainly a very interesting line to walk. 

Now the line art.

 This was intense. This type of detailed work is something that I really enjoy but can be really taxing on me. 

I coloured the line art to soften the hard line made with the black.

For the broken effect I used alternate pink colours. 

 My thought process here was; She is made of crystal, the light moving through each broken segment would create different saturations of pink. 

Added the cutie mark. I shifted areas of the cutie mark to move with the broken body parts.

The colours didn't quite have the 'crystal' effect that I was going for. I applied a crystal texture over the body and adjusted the blending mode to create a more dynamic appearance.

I erased some areas to soften the texture.

NOTE: At this point I was informed by the commissioner to remove the floating eye.

Added a soft shadow



I love how I approached the hair. That was experimental and it came out so well.

The lighting is a little soft, but works for the 'glowing' effect. The shadows don't quite fit.

This was quite a huge commission. I normally don't get given the opportunity to work on such detailed pieces but this was pretty nice experience. I miss doing details like this.
