A commission of two characters sitting under a tent huddled up in a wholesome way. I had a fair amount of liberties with commission, after finding out that one of the characters is an archaeologist I decided to make that my theme.

Lose thumbnail to find composition and block in characters.

Using gradients I start to separate the foreground from the background. This is a really quick and easy way to see if your composition is working.

Added some lighting to see how I would approach this later in the piece.

Adjusting characters in the the scene, fixing poses and anatomy. Kuri was far too small in previous sketch.

Still fixing that horse. Much happier with this one, the previous back legs were off.

Doing my line art in Clip Studio Paint. I was recommended to try a pencil brush in there and I must say that I very much enjoy that brush.

Sketched in more background details. Just filling out the scene.

The original sketch was too messy to see the details for the background. Sketching back over some areas and refining some details makes my line art much easier.

More lines.

Sketched in the additional details in the background details ready to be lined.

I forgot the wings and book details.

FINAL LINE ART

Fully detailed art pieces like this are a new thing to me. There are quite a few things to take into account and I was concerned about having a cluster of non working colours.

BLOCKED IN COLOURS

CLEANED COLOURS

COLOURED LINE ART

Changing the colour of the line art to a purple and changing the layer to Multiply.

Adding a new layer above, using the same purple as before and setting the layer to Multiply.

Using the selection tool, and eraser brush I removed the areas affected by light. Turning the opacity down to 50%.

Adding glow effects.

Final lighting effects and highlights.

Bringing the final art into Photoshop, I applied a Colour Balance filter and Photo filter.

One of my over all problems I see is that my characters look too flat. I see huge steps forward in my shading and lighting but as per usual needs work.

Maybe I am rushing it too much.
