I've been saying this for awhile now hut considering how much you've loved this series, I would highly recommend watching Revokutionary Girl Utena if you haven't already. I think y'all would really dig it and I desperately want to hear your thoughts and analysis of that show.

Aden O'Brien

You're so lucky that you started watching Madoka now of all times. There is a sequel movie to the show called Rebellion that came out in ~2013. More than a decade later in 2024 they announced the next sequel movie.

2024-02-20 01:22:50 I would delete this comment on the very small chance Ben/Anna reads the comments on this episode for some reason. The name of the new movie itself is a MASSIVE spoiler. Think a little.

MADOKA SUNDAYS LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Russell Gambardella

What a great discussion, I’m so happy you both are loving this series! Can’t wait for more…especially when Ben grows to love Kyoko hahaha

Be glad it landed on a truckbed and not the pavement...

Some additional information to consider; due to the influence of Shinto in Japanese culture, there is a greater emphasis on the importance of the placement of one's soul in the physical world, which adds another wrinkle of visceral existential horror that is difficult for Western viewers to appreciate.

Zipzip

not really. there is no way someone would understand anything from its name with current knowledge.

#Kyubeydidnothingwrong ... See, Madoka is terrible, literally throwing her friends down into the street.

Verols

do not throw souls!

Verols

How is it a spoiler, even in hindsight after watching everything it's not a spoiler

Justin_IVIX

I don't know how people can still like a character that just throws her friends away like that.

It's not that long, and shows from the 90s aren't too old. Utena is great.

drac

Seconded! Utena is an amazing anime that I think they'd love since they enjoy Madoka so much. On that, Princess Tutu is another great anime to watch for this reason. and to the second person: discrediting it by claiming it's too old is a disservice. There's many great older animes out there, a few of them not even as long as something like Dragon Slayer or My Hero. Just because it's older, doesn't mean it's bad.

drac

EDIT: I goofed at a silly a comment, my bad! I remember in the past I've seen people say this genuinely + I'm real awful at reading tones in text at times ha, so I got overexcited.

drac

Very excited for more of this series, I love your guys insight and appreciation for this show! Honestly the best reaction to Madoka I've seen.

How is it so hard for some people to comprehend that *blank* being in the name of the movie shows that the concept of it (and the narrative threads attached to it) exists past the current anime? Considering, well, LITERALLY EVERYTHING in the series up to current, this revelation came as a surprise to hardcore and veteran fans, let alone people still watching the main tv-series such as these two. If they had potentially read Aden's original comment (it's edited now, thank you, Aden), they'd gain newfound knowledge about this massive plot point, which would cause them to go forward with different expectations than going in completely blind, thus changing their reaction(s) to the existing story. UNDERSTANDING what it means isn't the issue here. As it's an anime-original series, nobody aside from the creators has an "understanding" of it yet, but the name alone spoils the existence of it past the currently animated narrative. THAT would cause them to "understand" something in and of itself. I'm noticing there's a stark lack of critical thinking skills even in this community. It's irritating.

Justin_IVIX

That one clearly flew over your head, just like the time Madoka threw Sayaka off a bridge.

drac

WHOOPS MY BAD, I can be really terrible at reading tone through text sometimes.

Ttsukasa

holy cow how can someone take that seriously, man you almost made a copypasta...

Ttsukasa

Hi Autosave, None spoiler here: Please pay attention to the artistic designs of the backgrounds, music, shadows, lighting, everything about this show has hidden Haku... I mean value sosu.

Amir Shipp

I've been waiting to sub just for this series. Ugh, I love you guys. Food for thought: Even though Kyoko is really harsh and cruel when she talks to Sayaka outside of Kamijo, she actually reiterates what Mami told Sayaka about making a wish for the right reasons. Mami warned Sayaka about making a wish for another person with the hope they'll be grateful for it, telling her that if she was thinking about doing it for Kamijo then she should check her motivations. So when Kyoko says that if Sayaka is hoping Kamijo's healing could open up a path for her to be closer to him is the wrong way to use a wish, it was a hard truth. Especially considering the price she paid for her wish, imagine if her wish was full of regrets or didn't satisfy her. Trading her soul for a boy who will never appreciate her for it would seem like a stupid or naive mistake. "Didn't Mami Tomoe at least teach you that much?"

And I cant believe how people can like Homura who is literally a demon...
