the next few episodes are phenomenal. im sad we gotta wait :D The magical wire is quite terrifying. there was an episode of a show called Andromeda years ago where kevin sorbos charcter encounters an assassin with something called a micron lash. it was a whip that was one micron across and basically cut anything instantly. think light saber but FAR deadlier. its even mentioned in the show how people dont really use them because of how dangerous they are to the user too. I think frieren the slayer is actually the title of the show in japan. it translates into something like frieren the funeral which is what the demons call her and is also a double meaning about her outliving all her friends.

ElectricAnt

Cool detail, after Frieren kills Draht and says "one down" she uses the word "ippiki" which is a counter for small animals, not people

When demons talk about "humanity's magic", they don't mean the human race's magic. Humans, elves, dwarves, their magic is classified as "humanity's", at least from what we've seen so far. It might even be a translation thing.

I just might die waiting for you guys to watch episodes 9 & 10.

About the title, it is the manga's name. I think that "Frieren the slayer" is a bit localized but works anyways. If you listen to Lugner, he says "Sousou no Frieren" which is indeed the name of the Manga/anime.

Another anime directed by Keiichirou Saitou, another title drop at episode 8 (he directed Bocchi The Rock). Sousou no Frieren = Frieren at the Funeral or Frieren of the Funeral, it's a cool word play in Japanese, in this case it was used because she's the one sending the demons to their funerals. Frieren the Slayer ... Alexa, play Rip & Tear - Doom OST.

I'm so excited for you both to see the next couple episodes!! Waiting will be very difficult haha

I would recommend watching Yaosobi's official english version of the opening. For one, I think the animations in their version is way more fitting than in the anime-version, in addition the translation is really well made.

Daniel Borrego

its such a good reveal that our sleepy lazy frieren is actually the boogyman to demons :D

Appriser

Yeah, 葬送 (Sousou) has a lot more to do with funerals than it has to do with slaying anything. Personally I don't think it was the best choice for localization this time

Daniel Borrego

well slayer is probably a better description in english to get the point across. frieren the funeral would just come off as a little wierd though you could infer its meaning. i guess thats the ballance that translators face.

ElectricAnt

It would be "Funeral Frieren" if anything. But yeah, the double meaning is just untranslatable

Evan Valenti

Frieren actually has the same VA as Anya in Spy X Family.

Mambako

Fun fact: Saitou Keiichirou, the same director as Bocchi the Rock! He was so good doing the same thing in episode 8 of both shows, bringing up the title of the show with the name of the episode. This show’s translation in English only calls it “Frieren”. But in Japanese and Chinese, we all call the manga and anime “Soso no Furiren”, it means “Frieren the Slayer”.

WOAH... I never fail to be amazed at Japanese VAs incredible vocal acting range.
