Time for some knowledge 😎😎 Firstly - The reason stumps are often left is because they are damn hard to get rid of. Any decently large tree 8m+ will have a root system nearly equal to the extent of their branches. Ive cut down tiny little pest tree/bush things 1-6m tall, the only reason it wasn't a nightmare was because that species had super shallow roots so you could cut the roots on one side and tip them over. Don't feel bad for the "Parrot bushes" they are spikey awful things and stupidly abundant (flashbacks to clearing them by hand....) When a large stump is actually in the way the most common modern solution is to grind it up with a big rotary tool specialised to grind stumps. costly several hundred dollars and it doesn't get the roots. Second - TRAIN A DEER.......... have you ever seen a deer pull anything except a sled? There is a reason for that, but still those deer take ages to train to do that, its not natural for any animal to have a yoke around the neck (necessary) and exert itself to pull something. Even a horse takes a lot of training to be useful as a solid plowhorse, it would take those two possibly years if they haven't got experience training a horse. A deer does not have the strength to do that kind of labour even if trained. I think i heard that their bones are just not strong enough, you would need four to six deer to equal a single strong horse. Humans have been breeding horses to suit our needs for thousands of years, those breeds used on farms have been selected for their strength, endurance and ability to pull big heavy things. So yes they really needed that horse..... like badly needed it, like saved them several years of hard labour BADLY NEEDED IT. In that era basic choirs for a horse and plow is like 1hr of gardening for borrowing a Lamborghini for a full day.
