Just an interesting fact I won't go too deep into now: the anime and manga actually tell events in a different order for this arc (all of the flashback stuff with vueko and co. doesn't happen until about halfway through the arc in the manga) Because of the different structure between both it also changes the way you perceive a lot of things early on. I don't think either version is better than the other but it's cool that the anime tried something different.
