I always considered this to be a severe PTSD episode for him. Maho unintentionally triggered an episode and it was so bad he lost reality completely and was pulled in.

This would hurt to the core, I would probably fall for the AI version of my father's delusion as well. And when it is undone I think I would be broken completely all over again like when he first passed away. But those moments with said AI where I would forget he was gone, idk maybe it would be worth it?
