BOCCHI THE ROCK! 1x2: "See You Tomorrow" // Full-Length Reaction

So yeah... this is a total masterpiece of a show and one of my all time fav anime... but... it is basically a carbon copy of the even more spectacular K-On! made by the best studio in all of Japan, Kyoto Animation. K-On! is one of the most influential anime ever made, it popularized the "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things" genre and basically invented "Moe" culture. I highly, highly reccomend watching K-On! if you guys enjoy Bocchi because its a lot longer and you get much more character development. Also because K-On! is the OG Bocchi the rock and to be honest you guys along with many other reactors are watching the two shows completely out of order... but that's okay!

Damn, just to offer a counter point, K-On characters are pretty much one note with no development, and Bocchi is way more fun, just because both are CGDCT with music doesn't mean it's a carbon copy, for me Bocchi is the better show, by a lot

“K-On Characters have no development” Objectively false. Did you watch the show? If you did, you weren’t paying attention. “Just because both are CGDCT with music doesn’t mean it’s a carbon copy” Obviously they are different shows with different overall messaging, but yeah, cmon bro thats total cope. K-On! undeniably popularized CGDCT, it basically invented the genre. So yes, any series with 4 cute girls with different hair colors in a band together getting up to shenanigans and wholesomeness is indeed a copy of K-On!. Read up on some Anime history and you’ll figure it out. I feel bad for you that you don’t understand the absolute GENIUS that is K-On!, made by the same director who did A Silent Voice and Hibike! Euphonium. Naoko Yamada is the Goat and so is Kyoto Animation. As incredible as Bocchi is, as I already stated, nothing compares to the original work.

I get it, you love the show (probably a little bit to much), so you are trying to defend it. But you are way to passionate about it and wrong in a factual level. "I feel bad for you that you don’t understand.." And I feel bad for you that you are not grown enough yet to understand, that people have different opinions. He stated his opinion and you are trying to convince him that his opinion is wrong. I understand that K-On! had that effect on you and I am really happy for you, but many others does not feel the same way. You have to learn to accept that. "Read up on some Anime history" I think you should do that too, because K-On!, as influencial as it was, was not the anime that has invented the genre of CGDCT. It is agreed on that it was Azumanga Daioh, that was pretty popular and is considered to be the first. Even Lucky Star predates K-On! and that was very popular. You should also look what "carbon copy" means, because Bocchi is not even adaptation, it has only same premise of girls and music, but everything else is pretty much different. Or do you consider K-On! being copy of Lucky Star or Azumanga Daioh, since they predate K-On!? (and the quote "that original is always better" is not true, there are also things that are better than original work). "Its quite literally the opposite." That is also your opinion. And the fact that Bocchi has better MAL rating (and even I like it little bit more too, although I don't think K-On! is bad) proves, that there are many people with different opinions. Anyways, respect others opinions and avoid using yours as facts (or at least check them before using them). Sorry for a long post and have a nice day!

I'd say both shows have their own strengths, while Bocchi is clearly inspired by K-On! (sometimes a little too much) you can immediately notice the difference in humor, style and pacing. Having only seen up to episode 2 of Bocchi, I can already tell it's probably much more suitable and appealing to modern audiences that K-On would be if it were releasing today.

@Nucl3ar Snake Of course Bocchi is more suited to modern audiences... it came out very recently, that's pretty much a given. And I agree that both shows have different strengths and that there are clear differences, they are written and directed by completely different people. But as you said, Bocchi is inspired by K-On! in a fundamental and unignorable way, which is why people should watch K-On! first imo.

@Lukl "...And I feel bad for you that you are not grown enough yet to understand, that people have different opinions" Saying what LagunaNet said, that the K-On! characters go through no character development, is not a matter of opinion, its a factually incorrect statement. You can word by word go through the screenplay and prove with certainy that the characters do in fact go through clear character development. That is what I was referring to when I said that... not to his opinion on the show as a whole. "...because K-On!, as influencial as it was, was not the anime that has invented the genre of CGDCT" I never said it invented the genre of CGDCT. I specifically stated that K-On! "basically" invented the genre of CGDTC, not that it "literally" invented the genre. It undeniably popularized the subgenre into new stratospheres of relevance, if you knew anything about anime history you would know this. And it seems like you do know some anime history! "...(and the quote "that original is always better" is not true, there are also things that are better than original work)" I literally never said this. Now you are just making stuff up out of thin air. My quote that I think you were attempting to refer to was, "As incredible as Bocchi is, as I already stated, nothing compares to the original work." I never said the original is always better in a blanket statement, I was specifically referring to Bocchi, with "original work" referring to K-On! individually. Maybe English isn't your first language, as you misunderstood almost every single thing I said in my comment.
