2023-02-01 05:20:13 I hate when people won't give the show a chance because of the initial lewdness from Rudy. The show has amazing character arcs and deals with sexual themes in a realistic manner. For instance, Paul and Zenith are shown having sex, but not in a fan-service way, more in a young people in love type of way. Yes, everyone can hear them, but in the past that was just the way it was. Families lived in one or two room shacks, do you honestly think the whole family didn't know what was happening in Mom and Dad's bed, those brother's and sister's had to come from some where.

yup only reason never watched this all tho I might now with reaction

I quit on the show a few episodes from now, I may hop in to hear their discussions around then to see how they still feel about the mc. The set up magic system and potential world building all seemed promising if it weren’t all built to serve as a no consequences playhouse for a child molester. I respect Anna and Ben’s opinions enough that if they stick with it they might be seeing something that I’m missing.

SirMcDust

"Paul, Paul, Paul" Yeah, nothing to add to that.

SirMcDust

Hitting the nail on the head in that discussion. Rudy is such a fantastic, complex, nuanced and problematic character in one go, it's beautiful. In a way Rudy has not accepted this world as an actual one. Yes he says he wants to live it seriously, but at the same time he still treats it like a game and I can't really fault him for it. It also doesn't help that he wasn't some nice or even average guy in his previous life. In fact he was a hella fucked up person (obviously there are reasons for this, doesn't completely excuse him though)

With season 2 coming out this year, I am really glad to have the opportunity to rewatch it with you. For me, it is a series that fits so well for long discussions and analyses. The strongest part for me is the relatively slow pacing and the fact that Rudeus got reincarnated as a baby. It gives so much time for development.

Aiden

AHHH I need the next episode. Love the discussions!

child molester? do ya'll not understand what a flawed character is? also no consequences... so you just didn't watch the show lmao guess Zuko is just an imperialist murderer war monger than and you hated him for the entirety of ATLA?

hman70

Approaching your question seriously, Zuko was a child raised in an authoritarian society with an abusive father, I don’t hate him or Azula for the same reason I don’t hate Gabi in aot. *That said* in the episode Zuko Alone, after he befriended the young earth kingdom boy, if Zuko had fondled the kid while he was unconscious, yes, I would then consider him beyond redemption and dislike him for the rest of the show.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

so zuko grabbing old grandma's by the collar and yanking them around or burning down entire villages is way way way better than touching a girl the same age as you that youve already established somewhat close romantic tension with while also being a shut in closested loser in your previous life where you never had an interaction with any women and have no idea how to behave as a sexual man?

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Another fantastic reaction... keep them coming please! This show only gets better and better as it goes on, although these early slice of life child rudy episodes have a unique charm about them that makes me adore them on rewatch as much as the rest of the show, for me this whole thing is a masterpiece from beginning to end.

I really want you to go throughout the entire 1rst season, it has very controversial moments and I will not blame you if you drop the series after certain moments. Always keep in mind that Rudy is a very fucked up person, he is shit and that's how he start, he needs to change for real in order to live this new life seriously and that will not be easy.

Deatheye

There is an explanation as to why Rudy is so good at magic and able to teach it. The anime, sadly, never explains that. Explanation: He uses his knowledge from his past life. Physics, what are temperature differences, etc The storm he casted wasn't just powerful. Normally, a caster must cast continously cast to keep the storm going. Rudy used his past life knowledge of how storms form in nature. Knowing this, he created the natural phenomenon and the storm continued on its own. He didn't have to cast continously.

Joshua

It's always gonna be controversial, man. I wouldn't go after anyone that is offended by Rudy's actions, because they literally are meant to be deplorable. So instead of trying to defend him, I'd say give a bit of understanding if people are justifiably mortified about his actions lol. He is a good person deep down, but doesn't excuse any action whatsoever. Great protagonist though, but I do understand that it can be a bit too much for people, and I understand that not everyone can stomach it.

Aespa MY

its good to see all these comments hope helps grow the channel

nikum

You are not supposed to like him at first, you're supposed to watch him try and live a good life, in order to do so he has to change some of his old, extremely shitty ways. How hard is this for people to understand?

Anders Pike

In real life a person acting like this wouldn't get the "he's flawed, he's gonna change" treatement. Y'all would want him put into a small room and have the key thrown away. And no, he doesn't change at all, nor does he face actual consequences beyond some small slapstick moments before all is fine again.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

no, i would not want a 10 year old kid thrown into a small room and have the key thrown away if they innapropriately touched another child. childhood is the time when you allow kids to make mistakes and than teach them to do differently, Rudy never grew up in his real world life, he mentally stayed stunted as a high schooler all the way up until he died and was reincarnated. in this show, we are basically watching Rudy get a second chance of growing up and learning how to act properly as a person and as a man.

Crusty

Can't take anyone seriously when this is their only takeaway from this show

Crusty

Rudeus's reaction to Slyphie getting incantation-less casting down is when I knew I would like his character. He initially, altho just a little, hoped that she'd fail because it would mean that he'd really be something special in this new world. When she figures it out, he just exhales like "Of course I wouldn't be that special" and once he's humbled, all that's left is his genuinely feeling happy for her.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

so true, rudeus isn't all bad. its weird when i see people who say they love the show also say they hate rudeus and think he's just a complete douchebag which couldnt be further from the truth
