The animation wasn't finished for the scene where Annie saves Jean. It feels a little disjointed there because of that. Hopefully someone can provide you a link to watch the finished version!

Crunchyroll has the originally broadcast version of aot and the chopped off Annie scene is what aired. Fumination has the blue ray version, which finishes the scene. I haven't noticed any other scenes that where unfinished when broadcast that were added in the funimation versions, it is fine to continue with crunchyroll, imo.

As others have already said, the Crunchyroll version is original broadcast footage. "Blue Tiles" as well as the Annie scene are the product of this episode being straight up unfinished. It's important to remember that Wit Studio celebrated their year anniversary as a studio around episode 9 so they were an ambitious but certainly untested studio at the time and mistakes were bound to happen. They took a week off after this episode aired and they never did a full 25 episode season of this again so they were probably soured on the hellish amount of work required to deliver such high caliber animation every week for half a year straight. As for alternatives, Crunchyroll has the most literal subtitles for shows generally whereas Funimations tend to be a bit more localized. Obviously not to a netflix degree where the subs are literally just the closed captions of the dub (Also fine btw, J. Michael Tatum as Commander Erwin is honestly one of the best performances in anime period.) but still less literal. I sometimes find the crunchyroll subs a touch awkward to read but its all up to personal preference. I think the show's quality speaks for itself regardless of translation. Spectacular thoughts as always! Keep it up :)

You're watching the incomplete versions of the episodes. In the blu ray version Annie swoops down and pushes the titan to the ground and save Jean.
