when I was spoiled this I was very upsett at Rudy but the episode really changed me. Rudy is unrecognizable from early season 1. I hate to admit they have made me like him a lot. (haven't even watched the reaction yet haha, love the uploads hope yall doing well ❤️)

One thing I like about this episode is that they were totally upfront about their feelings. Roxy admits what she did was wrong, that she was being selfish, and she doesn’t try to justify it. Mushoku tensei has some of the realest character writing.

Y’all gotta be the most neutral and smartest reactors there is. This episode has made so many furious. Like yeah at the end of the day Rudeus cheated bottom line. There is no changing that. But at least Roxy had good intentions, she genuinely loves Rudy and wanted to help him. And what makes all of this better is that they are willing to be upfront with it to Sylphie (hopefully we see that next episode). Also thank you for pointing out it’s a DIFFERENT WORLD!!!! Like damn they’re customs and beliefs are different then ours.

I'm kinda sad that the anime skipped the dialogue between Rudy and Roxy when he tells her a fictional story about his past life and what he should do from now on.

Some skipped context (I think the anime handled this section rather poorly but overall a good episode) Rudy locked himself in his room for weeks, refusing to eat. Elinalise, Geese, Talhand, and Roxy had a conversation on how they could get him back on his feet. This was where Roxy learned that Rudy had a wife with a kid on the way. Elinalise brought the idea that the most effective way to bring a man out of this kind of depression was for him to bed a woman. Elinalise, of course, refused to do this, and Geese debated taking him to a brothel which was also not a good option. Roxy then basically decided on her own that she would try it herself. The most egregious instance of skipped content in my opinion was Rudy and Roxy's conversation the morning after. He basically explains his situation to Roxy through allegory, indirectly telling her his life story. That he was reincarnated into this world and that in his previous life he had failed to mourn the death of his parents and that now he was catching up with his grief. Not only was he mourning Paul, but his original parents as well.

Genuinely frustrated with this episode, after going back through both seasons I feel like this episode has character assassinated both Rudy and Elinalise.

Metatempo

May I ask why you think that? If anything the character of rudeus is even more deep and well written than before with him coming to term that paul was a father to him and having regret about his previous parents. If it's about the double wife thing or the cheating, understandable but imo in no way it assassinate the character.

I was checking the patreon every hour just waiting to watch the episode with you two! I loved this so much!

Its mainly with him rolling over so quickly and Elinalise being so willing to screw over sylphie in the process. If the only thing keeping Rudy from Roxy was a guilt trip conversation from elinalise, I just feel that is wild for where his character has come from. This is something I could see mid season 1 Rudy doing, but not Rudy now

Metatempo

it won't completly change your mind on elinalise but this is a quote from the light novels "I realize | shouldn’t say it like this, but before I was Sylphie’s grandmother, I was Roxy’s close friend.” For rudy it's your perception I won't argue.

Riley Hughes

underrated comment. honestly some of the best if not the best reactors out there, they always go into these shows with an open mind and always try to put themselves in the shoes of the charcters

This post is not about agreeing with the choices made by characters this episode for those who jump to this conclusion. Studio Bind changed a couple of details around what influenced characters thoughts and their reasons for making the decisions they did. The outcomes were the same, but the journey there differed. Roxy was coerced into it by the group, mostly Elinalise. The adjustments to Roxy's scene changed it from Roxy being coerced into it by the group, to being 100% Roxy's determination to help Rudy whilst the others thought leaving him alone would be better. This change made it clear that Roxy is the one who took the initiative to be intimate and to help Rudy recover. Rudy apparently pushed Roxy over, then they did the deed. If Rudy had been the one to push Roxy down, I’d have been disappointed. Accepting her advances vs taking the action himself sends a very different message given his headspace, even if she wanted it. Elinalise lied to Rudy about Roxy being pregnant to get him to ask Roxy to marry. Lying about a pregnancy would have been shallow and unnecessary. If Rudy had been convinced by her lies, I wouldn’t have appreciated Rudy’s inner struggle nearly as much. With what was said instead, she convinced him in a much better way than lying to his face and forcing him to take responsibility for a fake child. Excellent episode and I believe what details they changed made the story better despite what people think about supposed character assassination.

Aaron Griffin

Hard disagree. Rudy has always been a flawed protagonist and made huge mistakes. His actions are also a super realistic trauma response that happens all the time in real life. At the same time, this world doesn't seem to treat monogamy the same way as the modern world.

Dale Tucker

Really hoped the adaptation would change this part. Hated it in the LN and I'm still hating it now. It just ain't right. Cheating and polygamy are just so vile

Luke

Yeah the people defending it would be singing a different tune if rudy got back to see sylphie banging zanoba.

Erando

Different world, different teachings, different characters/people with different beliefs at a different point in time. Like you said, they're willing to be upfront about the wrongs and it was done all out of good intentions. Polygamy isn't so shocking in a medieval world. If anything I respect the author for integrating it with religions that question these things. Its awesome detail. Many viewers and reactors can't seem to separate their own morals from those in the show. I like AutoSave cause they're open minded, entertained and invested in what they watch rather than overreacting to the rights and wrongs of every decision. Gotta go into it objectively and enjoy it for what it is. Rudeus has grown a lot and is making more choices out of respect for others rather than for himself.

Wolfange

"Before i'm sylphie grandma i'm first roxy bestfriend and i want her be happy" i would have loved they kept these words from elinalise with rudeus and elinalise discussion

Wolfange

i don't agree with the pregnancy thing i would have love to let them it i mean it's clear and obvious rudeus didn't marry her because of that even without that it's clear about his decision with this episode but i would have love that to make him and make use realise even more the wieght of his action because clearly protection is not very a big things there and roxy could clearly been pregnant with that first time together it's a big risk that could happen, i always loved that moment in the ln about elinalise tricked rudy with that, make her act out of her usually her for the sake and happiness of roxy beside being sylphy grandma but as she said she is roxy friend first, and add heaviness to roxy and rudeus action thay have done sorry for my english not my first language ^^"

Christian Clark

yeah as an anime only viewer I was a little confused. but they did put in the sunken face of Rudy so I could gather an idea. I think with the limited screen time they did, they did a great job. I will assume there is a reason it wasn't like 2 episodes or something

Christian Clark

kinda weird considering the discussion Paul had with Rudy about never wanting to go back to one sword after having 2. Elinalise would obviously have heard thay conversation and known that behavior was normal in the world and want his friends happy

Keith Merrington

Roxy is a naughty girl. She took advantage of Rudy when he was most vulnerable because she wanted to. Despite the excuse of it being for his benefit (which it probably was), she actually carried through because it was what she wanted. Rudy is not to blame for that encounter. Rudy is a naughty boy. Despite knowing that he will hurt Sylphy (yeah, she'll get over it but she'll never see him quite the same again), he wants to marry Roxy too. His excuse is he wants to see Roxy happy, but he's mainly doing it because he wants both women. This is a great anime. One of the things I like most about it is that the characters are not perfect, but have complex motives.

Hello guys. I’ve been thinking this for a while now but this last video cemented it for me. Let me tell you how grateful I am of finding this channel, in which I can listen to 2 adults talking about what happens in fictional media using the tools and context given by such media. Honestly, it’s so refreshing and makes me appreciate your channel so much that I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, keep doing what you do, and that you are a treasure for this community. Greetings from Peru.
