Highly anticipated! Can't wait for the discussion!

All good, I'm sure I'll have enough with ep 12 and mushoku's discussion before bed lol.

BloodMoonGentleWind

Is the edited one where we can see the video and not a watch along?

Meow_Lin

LET'S GOOOOOO! CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH YOUR REACTIONS YOU TWO!

Matter

Before I watch this... I am so fucking excited to re-watch this with y'all. POST-WATCH EDIT: That went swimmingly. I'm very excited to see the discussion! “Ben REALLY liked this movie..” - I had a feeling he'd especially enjoy this, lol.

"You see how long the legs of those chairs are?" Sometimes I think you like chairs a little too much, Ben

Asbjørn Kennedy

>“Ben REALLY liked this movie” I expected nothing less LMAO Excited to rewatch this alongside you guys!

I have to say I loved ALL the confusion at the start, AND at the end. That's exactly what I wanted to see

Nagisa is the human form of Bebe, she was a little girl whose mom was in the hospital, about to die. Nagisa wished to be able to eat her favorite cheese dessert with her mom one last time. But as soon as her wish came true, she realized that she could have wished for her mom to be cured and immediately fell to despair, not even being able to eat the cheese dessert she wished for. That's why she wants to each cheese and confused Mami's hair for cheese

If Anna doesn't feel like this is the end, that she's being stalled, remember that this movie came out in 2013 and we've yet to have a continuation

Kalm

Don't worry. We don't have to long before the sequels of this movie is released. A trailer came out months ago confirming Japan release this year. That means 2025 is when it will be most likely released globally.

"Ben REALLY likes this movie.." Love it.

To answer your question, yes the movie was played in theaters in America! I saw it on the first day of its release and it was THE best cinema experience in my life! The movie came out in 2013, so 2 years after the end of the anime and I was really eager to see Madoka Magica's characters again! To think that 10 years would pass before a sequel would be announced... I litterally cried when they did lol. I definitely recommend seeing the sequel in theaters next winter if you can!

AngieAngelFish

I give this movie 10^83 traumatised Kyubey's out of 10

Ninja

I hope someone has told/will tell them that there is going to be another movie hopefully somewhat soonish. (the japanese trailer says winter 2024 but the english trailer just says coming soon and winter has already gone by)

Meow_Lin

Hope you guys are ready for the sequel next year! If you want more Madoka you guys can watch the Magia Record Side Story!

(Not so) fun fact!: After this movie aired, everyone who enjoyed Madoka Magica as a series were divided. One half understands and accepts what Homura did and that it's very reasonable and within her character to do so. The OTHER half denied the existence of Rebellion as it "ruined the ending of the anime and Homura as a character." This divide was very evenly split in online spaces that talked about Madoka. It was DEFINITELY something that lasted at least a couple of years before it finally died down. I'm aware of some people who REFUSED to try to watch Rebellion until not very long ago just because they wanted to "keep the image of the anime" hopeful for much longer. ANYWAYS, now that you've caught up, we only have to wait MAYBE a year for the english subtitled release of the NEXT canon Madoka Magica Movie sequel! WOOOO ITS BEEN ALMOST 11 YEARS ALREADY AND WE'RE SUFFERING WITH ANTICIPATION

same here! I was just about to leave a similar comment - I went to see this in theaters in one of the first few showings that they had in the States. They had some merch give away too that I was unfortunately not picked for (they gave the stuff out to random seats). I can remember the crazy confusion going on in the theater and when it finished and the community discussions of split feelings. I remember going back to a friend's house after the movie they asked how my movie went and I responded with "my favorite character turned into the devil and I loved it."

Since you're all done with Madoka and as caught up on Re:Zero as anyone I don't mind posting this observation and theory. I take what Homura did during Rebellion to be the same thing Satella did in Re:zero. The imagery of the world split in half including the moon at the end and her splitting Madoka in two, to never let go of her because of her possessive love for her is very similar. With both these witches respective goals to be to trap and protect the one they love. I'm gonna speculate that Subaru like Madoka was some greater beings and the future plots of both shows will involve either a time loop where the ending causes Episode 1 to happen, or a breaking of a larger loop cycle.

Ever since Madoka won the poll, THIS was the moment I was easily the most excited for!! The Rebellion movie is such a masterpiece, and while I haven't gotten to the discussion yet, nor mean to discredit your amazing ability to pick up tons of details on a first watch of anything, this movie has SO. MANY. DETAILS. I'm on my +10th watch, and participated in tons of discussions online as well as been reading stuff about the rebellion movie and Madoka as a whole, but I'm still seeing new stuff every time, and still not feeling like I'm comprehending every piece of symbolism in there - it's a lot. Also can I just say that I had the biggest grin on my face for both the first 30 minutes as well as the final 30 minutes. Especially in the beginning, your (warranted) dumbfoundedness to wtf was going on was everything I wanted. I still remember how I felt when I watched it for the first time: "THEY GOT ME AGAIN!". Originally, if you check out the first trailer for the Madoka series there is absolutely no hints of how dark the series actually it, it marketed itself as your typical rainbows and sunshine magical girl series, and since it was anime original (no manga etc), NOONE knew what direction it would go in the first two episodes. So obviously that was all a big bait and switch, and we all knew that going into Rebellion, so we had our expectations in check. But then they deliver that amazing bit of fanservice, and they drag it out to the point where you (or at least I did) kind of forgot what Madoka Magica was really like, and I got tricked into lala-land alongside the girls. And then the twist, first the realisation that a witch is behind the labyrinth, then thinking it was Bebe, then Sayaka, until we finally realised the truth. And then when things turned hopeful by the end, ANOTHER twist of Homura upsetting basically everything. It's incredible. Couldn't put it better than what Ben did at the end: "They dont give a fuck!". As for the ending itself - there is a bit of a split opinion - though I think the most prominent opinion among people that doesn't favor the movie as much is the fact that it doesn't feel like an "end", which I think is fair. Personally I've always held the belief that there would be a continuation, and the people I've spoken with that felt this way tends to think that their perspective on Rebellion would drastically change upon a continuation. But the years passed and we didn't hear anything... Until about four years ago, when a Madoka Movie 4 concept movie trailer dropped, it's official and available on youtube (about four minutes long), and it's really, really cool. Then once again silence, until 2021 where a direct sequel to Rebellion was officially announced! No proper trailer though, not until September 2023 - and it's scheduled the new movie to come out around the end of this year!!! I'm sorry for the tangent, but I wanted to make it clear that we've been waiting for a loong time never knowing if Madoka would end with rebellion, and it's been a subject of debate. The series end admittedly has a cleaner ending in terms of themes and message, but the movie is just so, so freaking good. And now we finally, hopefully, will get a proper conclusion to one of imo the best anime of all time. Anyway, thank you for this amazing reaction, it was probably my favorite rewatch/react experience ever <3

Evil Queen

BEST reaction to the Rebellion story I've ever seen. 10/10. Hope yall check out the sequel movie 4 trailer, yall only have to wait less than a year while the rest of us had to wait 10 years 💀💀💀

Nakirium

I agree with EVERYTHING you said here but i do want to make a quick correction about the Concept Movie Trailer. I was still on Tumblr during those years and I distinctly remember around 2015 that the very trailer you mentioned was being screened privately for specific japanese audiences and someone LEAKED it onto the internet. It was getting deleted EVERYWHERE and I managed to watch that same trailer IN 2015 probably a week or so after the private screening was "supposedly" held. So, for those who did manage to hear and/or watch it back then, it's been a good 9 years since we were exposed to the idea of a potential sequel...a long and awful 9 years... The only time we heard about the sequel finally coming was the first official announcement you already mentioned for 2021 and the rest is history~

love Ben's laugh and Anna's "NO!!!" at the end

Its been 10 years, but a sequel to this masterpiece is coming
