7 and 8 are my fav episodes of Korra. Glad I got to see those yesterday. I have no recollection of anything that happens after that. Excited to see what I've forgotten.

Honestly, I think the bulk of the hate for Korra came from when it was airing, and all of that comes from the studio getting in the way. First, they were only allowed 1 season but it did so well that the studio wanted more when season 2 dropped the writers didn't have a definite number of seasons to work with so the "story" quality dropped some only in the sense that they didn't have a roadmap to work with which affected views and made the studio pressure them. If you notice in season 2, there's very little movement outside of whos talking in the calmer scenes, and its because the studio wouldn't give them a proper budget. Finally, when the story and animation got better the studio kept changing the times to watch Korra from normal times to times when people where busy, to super late to literally only online. That combined with people wanting more ATLA and you can kind of see where the "hate" comes from.

Vaatu is a being of chaos and disorder. Raava was described as being light and balance. His existence is a necessary component of the universe, but he must be kept in check, which can only happen with Raava in control. He must exist and cannot be destroyed, but he cannot be in control. With him imprisoned, his existence is maintained and as the story shows, he can still influence plenty from where he is. Chaos is a positive force at times. Without it we would never change or evolve. Raava is not the opposite of chaos, she is balance itself. She is the one in the middle. The show codes them as opposites, but they aren't really. She is the middle. But the show also codes them as light vs dark as though they are complete opposites, so I understand the confusion.
