Yeah, I don't know if you guys caught that Mako was Iroh's voice actor. He passed away before Season Two of Avatar could finish airing.

The "in honour of Mako" is for Irohs voice actor. The scene of him singing to his son on the hill was the last voice line he recorded before he passed away. He does still voice the rest of the season, but they recorded out of order. So that scene kinda hits a bit harder watching it, knowing that he passed shortly after.

Mako “irohs” voice actor died so the end was a tribute. The picture of iroh son was also of the voice actor.

When you guys talked with Merphy Napier on Manga Bros you mentioned that old guys crying always get you. She dropped Iroh’s name kind of hinting at this episode. Now you know what she was talking about 😆 😭

Mako is Iroh's voice actor. The story goes that the show runners knew Mako was dying, so they changed the ending to his short story asked him to record some new lines. Allegedly, these were the final lines he recorded for the show before he passed away.

Don't know if it's been said yet, but "Mako" referred to Makoto Iwamatsu, the Voice Actor for Iroh, who passed away after recording but during editing for Book 2.
