This episode has some of my favorite jokes. Just spectacular all the way through

I love y'alls reactions to these videos! Keep up the wonderful work! A minor quibble but on the topic of Jojo's potential influence on Dragon Ball, Araki and Toriyama are roughly contemporaries and quite possibly drew influence from each others work since both Dragon Ball and Jojo's were being serialized during roughly the same time but Dragon Ball had been running for like three years before Jojo's debut in 1987. While I've seen some people claim that the popularity of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in 1987 influenced Toriyama to have Goku become older (in chapter 166 which was first published in 1988) and adopt certain stylistic elements from the series, there's no real evidence this was the case and according to Toriyama himself, the decision to make Goku older was to make the martial arts battles easier to draw and was met with heavy resistance from his editor. From passing comments in interviews and other things over the years, Hirohiko Araki and Akira Toriyama seem to have a great deal of respect for one another as contemporary artists and have both drawn tributes for the respective anniversaries of each others series but there's no evidence that Araki's work has had any serious influence on Toriyama and the idea is a bit odd considering Toriyama was already a well-established and popular mangaka who had his first serialized series published in Weekly Shonen Jump (Dr. Slump) before Araki even had his debut in the industry in 1980 and completed that series and began his second one (Dragon Ball) three years prior to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's first chapter was published. Anyway, sorry for the block of text. I'm rambling at this point about a seriously minor nitpick. Like I said, I have really enjoyed your reactions to DBZ Abridged and hope y'all keep enjoying it!

Yeah, the Ginyu Force isn't inspired by Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It's inspired by Super Sentai, the franchise that Saban adapted into Power Rangers. You can even see it in the Japanese name of the team: Ginyu Tokusentai. Toei, the company that does the anime for Dragon Ball, also does Super Sentai and has since 1975.

So context, part of the reason Goku(sub) sounds like an old lady yelling at the top of her lungs is cause it is because its the same VA who did Goku in the original DB(sub) which takes place when he was like 12 at the start and ends when he's like 17 or 18 and Japan animators have a tendency to do that with young male characters(choosing female VAs) even dubs do it sometimes(case in point One Piece). Also if you guys do go thru Z I recommend after finishing the Saiyan Saga go back and rewatch in Sub the speech Goku gives Krillin to let Vegeta go because there is a biiiiig difference in what is said

Really, if they want the more accurate experience in English, Kai is the way to go. The dub was pretty fantastic from both a scripting and acting end.

Fun tidbit, The Crowd cheering in this episode is actually from TFS, who asked the fans of the show to record themselves, and spliced them all together to make the crowed

Circuitdoodles

I don’t know if anyone has pointed this out before but Toriyama loves naming characters puns in the series The Ginyu Force members follow the tradition of Dragon Ball characters being named for puns; in this case, all manner of dairy products: Guldo is derived from "yogurt", Recoome from "creme", Burter from "butter", Jeice from "cheese", and Ginyu is derived from the Japanese word for "milk" (牛乳, gyūnyū).

Still amuses me that Jeice is from the space version of my city 😂 The funny thing is that he actually references a lot of real Australian/Brisbane things, cos if I remember correctly, one of the members of TFS did a year exchange here in university. Also the flood appeal was for 2011. Was pretty nasty at the time, and 3/4 of the state of Queensland (which is 2.5 times bigger than Texas) was declared disaster zones.

Cloud Kitsune

Jeice is seriously my favorite of the Ginyu Force, for his accent and height alone, though what really made me like him best was his relationship with Burter. XD The two are just great together~!

Only issue that may cause is going from OG to Kai there were *several* recasts plus another 10 years of voice acting experience plus direction change and less censorship. I would say watch in sub purely because it is a very consistent experience all the way through up to GT.

Down D Stairs

you guys should watch Kai cus the z dub had a habit of changing lines here and there in a way that subtly changes the characterization of certain characters. It made Goku seem like more of a hero of justice, which isn't really who he is.
