Personally, I feel like finishing up possible content for the village first is best so you can focus on one area before moving on to the next rather than spreading out your focus. I think it would be fine if you want to add in more scenes and such that you come up with later to the village, but I figure most people at least want to see all possible storylines resolved before moving on and it makes it easier to focus on writing if you can narrow down what you're focusing on and can avoid having to go back for things later on.

That can happen but after reading how many people wished that existing NPCs had more content it's not surprising at all.
