Most of the best gigs I’ve been to have been local bands rather than global superstars. It saddens me how much of the thriving and diverse Irish music scene goes completely under the radar. Are there any unknown independent bands that you wish would get more recognition (Irish or otherwise)?

Hello Martin, thanks for doing this q&a. I think it's great that you take the time, so I'll take this opportunity. What was your state of knowledge in music theorie when you entered the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to do your Masters degree in composition? Did you have some kind of classical training, like piano lessons as a child for example? According to linkedin you first did something completly unrelated to music. How could you enter the conservatoire without a bachelor of music? What were the requirements for entering the conservatoire? And do you have any tips for people who want to do kind of the same thing (studying music while already having studied something else)? Which literature for music theorie and music in general can you recomend or did/ or do you find helpful. I'm really looking forward to your answer. Thanks again!

Thank you for the QnA. I’m a classical saxophonists in uni getting degrees in Mus Ed and Sax Perf. I’ve noticed that in your videos where you show snippets of you writing and editing as examples, there are a couple with saxophone in it. What are your thoughts on the current state of orchestral saxophone and how do you think is the best way to make them solid members of an orchestra?

What is your take on the current state of music industry regarding big labels, streaming and independent distribution? What should happen in order to get more decentralization?
