Today has been a day of great sorrow and contemplation for me. Sorrow for the losses of 2020, and all the losses to come in 2021, and contemplation of the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

MLK was a shining example of courage, conviction, and forbearance. Unlike the posers of today, tweeting from the comfort of their couches for social justice, Martin Luther King Jr. put his freedom, his safety, and ultimately his life on the line, not merely to fight for equality, but also in a firm resolve to never lose his faith in humanity.

,It takes optimism to believe that things can get better in the world despite all the darkness.
It takes great strength to return injury with kindness, insult with patience. Too often we respond to the slings and arrows of life with anger. I am guilty of this, and my failures only make me appreciate his example all the more, and resolve to do better.

I regret the moments of pettiness and anger in my life. The stupid urge to return pain for pain, insult for insult, making of this world a kingdom of the blind firmly committed to the principle of an eye for an eye as they stumble bitterly in their darkness. I am guilty of being governed by passion, a harsh word, an unkind thought. This nation too is engulfed in so much anger, so much sadness, that I despair for the future.  But I hope that in this new year, I will be able to keep the example of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in mind, a man who truly turned the other cheek, never gave up his humanity, and never lost his way. May the rest of the world also strive to keep his shining example in our thoughts. Rest in peace MLK.

We are incredibly like minded. I am not ready to give up, but I fear the ability of the media to stoke the flames of hatred and prevent the healing we so desperately need! Thank you for providing an oasis of sanity, wit, insight and entertainment. We are brothers in the coming fight for our freedoms!

What a damn shame his legacy was destroyed by certain groups (you know whom im referring to). Sorry DC, but it had to be said.

Very beautiful words. Thank you for spreading a message of love and peace. While the world can be challenging, it's important to remember our roles, and fulfill our responsibilities as peaceful citizens of the Universe. I too tend to give in too easily to anger. Your words reminded me that I have an important part to play in fulfilling the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, regardless of chaotic energies propagating in the world.

He was all of those things but also a grifter and a hypocrite. It's one of those instances where we should be content to let the legend grow while the real man fades into the mists of time. I, too, have a dream that we can judge people based on the content of their character. A stirring ethos to live by but one we get further from every day.

Beautifully well said Sir! I too have been guilty not just of anger & returning people's bs in kind, but also of judging people and having irrational suspicions at times concerning them. I hope every day that I can grow & be better, even when the world around me seems to be getting worse. May 2021 be a year of great recovery for us all! Hail!

As always, very nicely said, my friend! Thanks for all of the light and friendship that you bring to me and so many! The content of your character is GIGANTIC, sir! HAIL and L.L.L. 🖖

We are all imperfect. We are all guilty of hypocrisy because we all fall short of our ideals. But we mustn't let our personal failures stop us from speaking our higher truths knowing that we fall short of them constantly, stop us from speaking our higher truths out of fear of being called hypocrites. A hypocrite is one whose higher truths are lies. But a man who falls short of his higher truths is merely a sinner, and deserving of forgiveness.

Thank you for your words, Sweetie. Here in this little town, it is extremely difficult for me to find my faith in humanity. I lost it somewhere during the last few years. I keep the words of Edmund Burke in my mind, and try to be one of those people who are doing something, instead of staying quiet. Again, I thank you for your words.🌹😘

Your words cannot be truer, as we see more and more people being punished for nothing more than their beliefs, and the anger builds, we all need to take a step back, act like adults and learn to accept one another. It is okay to disagree with each other, but we cannot grow until we are willing to listen to those who's ideas may differ from our own.
