The Little Mermaid is about to be remade as a live action film, joining Aladdin, The Lion King, and Dumbo on the list of movies ruined by cheap soulless live action ripoffs of classic animated films. Has Disney run out of ideas?  Is Disney harvesting the organs of past triumphs for profit?  And what does making significant changes to a beloved character do to that character in the long run?

So glad you posted this Lord Doomcock!!! I’ve been waiting for this one!!

Red alert

We both know Disney race swaps not for diversity but to use it as a meat shield against criticism

David S. Sastre

This woke remake stuff is just the pits. The pits of Hell.

Another one I won't be watching.

I was wondering if you'd tackle this one my Liege. This is one I don't care about in and of itself (I woudln't have seen it anyway), but it's the issue that just bugs the hell out of me, swapping sex, race, sexual orientation, etc on existing characters. It makes me want to tear my hair out, and at my age, I'm running out of hair to use...

I am so f@&king pissed off about this!!!!! SO PISSED OFF!!!!! Disney needs to stop ruining the classics.....PERIOD!!!! GET SOME NEW F@&KING IDEAS FOR CHRIST SAKE!!! You know that GIF of Taz you posted on Twitter...….yeah, me too, God Damnit!!!!! (deep breath) Ariel is a white girl with red hair....RED HAIR....speaking as the Minister of the Ginger Haired League....I claim discrimination!!!! Redheads make up 2%.....TWO PERCENT of the white population. (I know, Ariel's hair is red red but I would still allow her membership into my League in Xanadoom) Who is the Goddamned Minority now? (another deep breath) Rant completed.

The expanse is our favorite show too.

My initial reaction was also "doesn't fit", then I looked her up and she is a singer, a good one. I also think they (Disney), wanted to provoke a negative reaction with this move and all the outcry is exactly what they wanted to happen. So I say keep calm. She can sing, is pretty cute and If they give her a red wig and proper makeup, it could work.

Couldn’t agree more, Lord Doomcock! I’d add the live action remakes of Beauty and the Beast and Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty) to the atrocity list. Lack of imagination and wokening gone wild, I say.

The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen (1836) A DANISH author: "The Sea King (...) was, however, deserving of very great praise, especially for (...) care of the little sea-princesses, grand-daughters. They were six beautiful children; but the youngest was the prettiest of them all; her skin was as clear and delicate as a rose-leaf, and her eyes as blue as the deepest sea"

What hurts me the most... Is there a white girl out there with crimson red hair that is unknown... Just sitting at home, who's life having this role would change forever. Instead... Someone that doesn't even look the part gets it... Will it impact her life? No she is already done kindof music star .. I firmly back Bella Thorne in the role, as in the role of Mary Jane for spiderman. Zendaya go the role of mj . Supposedly Zendaya was in the running for the little mermaid... How can Zendaya be in the running for both of those roles, when her castmate Bella Thorne from shake it up Chicago was BORN looking like both those fictional characters yet her name never came up for either. I just don't understand it .. it's like... What if marvel was looking for a Prof Charles Xavier.. And the first thing out of there mouths is how about Avery Brooks? He was great as sisko ! He will make a great Xavier !! Well.. yes he would... But wouldn't Patrick Stewart be the logical choice because he, is the cloned image of Xavier from the comics?

What makes me laugh is how dumb the media is in regards to this and how they say stuff without realizing they are making it worse. One article I read mentioned how the red hair was a Disney thing and therefore people were getting upset over nothing as if they were doing things accurately, then she should be blonde anyways. WTF? That doesn't mean you can cast a black girl with dark hair in the role and it's fine. It's funny how something like this is fine but if you cast say a white woman to play a Chinese character in a Marvel film it is horrible. Or if you don't cast a gay actor to play a gay character, you are doing something wrong as there are a lot of gay actors you could hire. Just more of the Hollywood hypocrisy since it seems to only work one way. I wonder what Hollywood has against redheaded white women? Look what they did in Spiderman - no we didn't cast Zendaya as MJ, she is a totally different character. Yet look at wikipedia about her character: Michelle "MJ": Appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is an original character portrayed by Zendaya, although she was created for the MCU, her character is an amalgamation of several Spider-Man characters, particularly Peter’s love interests such as Michele Gonzales, Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy. Is Hollywood mad at Judy Garland about something and taking it out on redhead white characters?

Here's where we agree. In the wave of live-action remakes, Jasmine looked like Jasmine. Mowgli looked like Mowgli. Belle looked like Belle. Heck, even the Beast looked like the Beast. Why won't Ariel look like Ariel? Is it racist to want continuity from one movie to the other? A remake is not a reimagining of core characters. A remake from cartoon to live-action should only be different in the medium used (ink and paper to people). Here's where we may disagree. It's unpopular, but I liked the live action Beauty and the Beast. Was it unoriginal? Sure. But did it remain true to the cartoon nearly to the t? Absofu*#ing-loutely. Do I want every Disney movie remade? Nope. But maybe someone else will have their childhood movie come to life when such and such gets remade. I won't watch Aladdin or jungle book, etc. but the people who want them will.

🤣😂 Love the subtlety. I wouldn't have pegged you for a big TLM fan!

Halle Berry as Ariel? I hope that's some kind late April Fools Day joke. That is the WORST casting I've heard since John Wayne played Genghis Khan

I'm more nortic in appearance, I do believe there was once Irish blood in me but my Scandinavian side did as they do, and conquered it. I was born with brown hair that turned bright red, before all falling out and coming in blonde with barely visible freckles, so clearly my Viking genes sacked my Irish genes. I'm annoyed with this both for the politically charged reasons I see which I shall keep to myself here, slight rant on video in the comments... but my closest friend since middle school is a ginger, and maybe being evil I will hereby sew some jealousy, she is not just a red head cast in freckles but has the most beautiful crystal blue eyes who's beauty is only matched by their uselessness, yes! She is a red head with glasses. What Disney and many others have done I'm angry at because it feels like an erasure of her and others like her. Oh, also she's way more anti-feminist then me too. I do see the point made by bionic bellybutton that I do hope they keep out the woke bs, at least to a minimum and there are girls of color who enjoy it and hopefully sparks the same enjoyment many other princess movies have, I just hope the drama and politics of it aren't forced upon them.

doomcock

It honestly makes me FURIOUS. This is one of my favorite animated movies of all and it's a disgrace to rip it off and try to sell a prefab version when the perfect version ALREADY EXISTS!!!!

doomcock

You and I BOTH Samantha! An excellent rant, I find this absolutely unbearable! IT IS DISCRIMINATION IN THE NAME OF QUOTAS!

doomcock

Dude...I hate the F*** out of this because it's a goddamn REMAKE! I don't give a damn who they cast, it's DOA for me! GRRRRRRR!!!!!

doomcock

Completely agree. But at least Maleficent was a different take on the whole thing, which is fine in theory. A movie from the evil POV is not a bad idea.

doomcock

There is no sense at all in this woke BS. I think sometimes Disney hates its fans and cares more about subjugating them than entertaining them.

doomcock

Yup. That's one of many reasons I skipped Far From Home. BS I sez.

doomcock

I don't know how to reply to the latter, so I can't really say we disagree...I didn't see Beauty and the Beast, as I didn't even like the animated version, I felt it was a knockoff of Little Mermaid in terms of structure and I found it uninspired, so I only ever saw it once. In general, Disney can suck it when it comes to trying to hock remakes. I just do not agree with remaking something just to milk it for cash. F that!

#gingerlivesmather ... by the way, talking about Disney, I bet you all have seen the fight at Disney world. The amazing thing to me is not so much to see some crazy and terrible degenerates fighting in front of kids but the lack of security and order. Where were the park security? oh that's right, giving a hard time to Timmy and Jessica because they came dressed up as Han and Leia and that's forbidden. Seems that Disney has spent all the money on the surveillance systems/finger printing just to have info to sell, not to make the park more secure

Hail Doomcock! As always you are wise in exposing the despicable tactics of Hollywood! I hope in a future video you will comment on the ridiculous double standards of the SJWs when it comes to changing a character's ethnicity. If the character was traditionally white and is changed to an ethnic minority, they go BALLISTIC if we object to the casting, and accuse us all of being racist against blacks and being unable to “handle” diversity in a film, and so on. If the REVERSE happens and a traditionally ethnic minority character is recast with a white actor, we object just as loudly but the SJWs are silent and ignore it. The most recent examples being that fans were outraged when “Khan Noonien Singh” was played by a white British guy in Star Trek Into Darkness and “Princess Tiger Lily” was played by a white girl in the 2015 Peter Pan film. In both cases, fans of the traditional character howled in protest but SJWs looked the other way and said absolutely nothing in response. Using their own “logic”, they should have claimed the “toxic fans” are just racist against white people and are upset and uncomfortable with seeing “too many whites” in a movie! SJWs of course don’t want to discuss fans protest against white actors playing minority characters because it goes against their talking points that we are motivated by bigotry instead of motivated to respect the character’s integrity and how the character’s creator envisioned them.
