This is such a bizarre and beautiful film and it cannot be stressed enough: well worth your time! Is it the best introduction to the series? Probably not. Is it a gorgeous Mamoru Oshii work which can be seen with no UY knowledge whatsoever? Yes. Also, in roughly a month the new take on the series comes out. Watch it, I speak from experience when I say it's a great work and I look forward to seeing what the new adaptation picks and chooses (since I cannot believe they're doing another 200 episode juggernaut).
