Jack Ranger was a 25 year veteran on the force. His new partner Luke Daniels was a rookie, but Jack knew he was well-trained. Jack’s prior partner of 20 years has been Lou Daniels, Luke’s old man, at least until he’d been shot and killed when a routine traffic stop had gone way south. Lou had always wanted his son to avoid the force which is why he’d sent him to college, and truth be told, Luke had planned to become a lawyer. After his dad died, that all changed. Jack had known Luke since the Rookie was a kid, so he felt almost like Luke washis own son, and when Luke had come to him to ask his advice about changing career paths, he did his best to honor Lou’s legacy and also give the best advice he could. He and Lou had taken Luke hunting, camping, even on survival training, so Jack knew that his life experience, coupled with his brains, would make him an excellent addition to the force. And he knew it’s what the kid wanted–to honor his old man. He never in a million years thought they would end up partners, though. That was his Chief’s doing–not that he minded. Despite having less official experience, he trusted Luke to protect him more than he did almost anyone else in his Station.
