Yes Kieth, back in 1981 LSM went to uni in California for engineering. He was in Cali from 1981 to 1985 when he returned to South Korea. He wasn't the only CEO of an Idol company to go to America for some time. However, LSM did have the most influential Korean Entertainment company since the 90's till arguably 2017/2018. He is the one who invented/set up the typical kpop trainee system. Which many companies do use. Not all though, as some companies can't afford it or they just altered LSM's system slightly to maybe fit what kind of group they were trying to put together. In 2003 Jin-young park and BangPD lived in America, out in LA. For one year they struggled. Bang was still working with JYPE at the time, and Jin-Young was trying to get his artists more global.. but it wasn't sticking. Wonder Girls was a great attempt, Girls Gen was a great attempt as well as others. But none of them stuck in the American market. Bang PD wanted to change things, he'd been wanting to. So he made his connections in LA, he had already told JYP he'd be leaving to make his own company and JYP understood and wished him luck. Seo Taiji is the god father/father of Kpop. He passed the torch to BTS, you guys should see the 25th Aniversary concert he held. He shared the stage with BTS throughout the whole concert and even said kind words about how he was proud of BTS, that he was glad a group came up to continue on with what he had started. These words also similar to PSY's words towards BTS. PSY views BTS as the group who could do what he couldn't, the group who could achieve with sensibility and lyrics not just pretty faces and superficial lyrics. PSY's Gangnam style was social commentary, it had substance and wasn't you're typical kpop song. Most of the superficial songs that come out of Kpop do not chart well in the west, not without bundles or other incentives. BOA broke the doors down to the Japanese Market for sure. She debuted in Japan in 2001 and later even had some english songs- 'Eat you Up' and 'Energetic' were two of her popular english songs... though she never made it big in the west. She did become popular in those who already liked Kpop or were just getting into it if they stumbled upon it online... or in an Anime Mag like NewType Mag(where my anime nerds at? Some of the artists were actually korean artists as the songs talked about were in japanese/anime they were featured in the mag.) There's just so many groups that popped up. And Yes, each of the most popular pushed Kpop into a direction that changed it mostly for the better. Groups opening the Chinese market, the Japanese market... pushing the popularity of Kpop into those two markets even more. A few groups knocking on the door of the western markets, but sadly not making it in until BTS.. and more specifically 2015 when a BTS album first made it on Hot 200 albums. Then going up in popularity in 2017 by actually getting nominated at American award shows. Again, pushing the boundary. It can be argued that 2018 is really the year they broke the wall open and paved the way for those coming up next. But the thing is it's up to those artists to walk on their own two feet on the path BTS paved. BTS can't walk for them and wouldn't. Some groups are doing pretty well here, most of them newer/4th gen groups. But it's good to see them not taking it for granted. Kpop hopefully won't fizzle out with it's hardest hitters in service. Right now BTS still carries and I personally don't see that changing. Just my opinion. Yes, there's lots of decent groups. Some newer ones are even better than a lot of older groups... But they're going to have to continue and push the envelope in new areas. (it's like an hour till Bangbang con and we're celebrating with ARMY Friends so I will shut up now lol.) HAPPY BANGTAN-VERSARY! Happy 10 years, been here for all 10 and hope there will be more than 10 more. 💜💜💜💜

for a detailed video Nick we will need at least a 2 hrs video lol ....as an ARMY I feel proud of BTS and at this point they are bigger than kpop like it was said in the video, BTS is a genre on their own, the excellence, they set the bar VERY high for the rest however I feel kpop still contains good and interesting soloists and groups (example: Mamamoo, Dean, Zico, Crush, IU, Red Velvet, Kard, SHINee, etc etc) that I hope can have more opportunities to shine internationally, thank you guys for the open minded reaction!
