Personally, I would not want to join tbh. And I would take the the opportunity to not join if it presented itself. The perspective of wanting to honor your family is very much valid, I think I feel differently because my family’s culture doesn’t value things like the military

BTS has always said they would serve. It's the previous gov't that dangled the carrot of more exemption. They took the initiative and enlisted so they won't get taken advantage of again, at least that's what I want to believe. I want to hope that they can meet normal people and live as normal of a life as possible. Hopefully they won't get mistreated while there. Oh way back when I was living in Taiwan, men there also had to serve. Exemptions were given for medical problems...I knew of a guy that made sure he won't pass a physical so he couldn't serve.

Mimi

As much as it sucks, i know honor is a huge thing in a lot of asian country mine included. I would have liked them not to serve but I also know the consequences and the constant backlash they would have received. I’m glad they are serving their country and i hope they come back with lot of life experience apart from their BTS life and that it reflects in their music.

It hurts, but I also know they always said they will serve when called. I will always be here for them and supporting them waiting for 2025 to come! I :'(

sad to see them go but know they are fighting for their country and will be supporting them. can’t wait til 2025-2026 to see them all together again. fighting.

I don't know who told you Namjoon was supposed to go at the same time as Hobi, but none of the members said that, they're all going at certain times, Namjoon is def going to be next but he wasn't supposed to go at the same time as Hobi and also we need to remember in SK it's considered an Honor to serve for your country and most of the time the men in that country do it was pride, BTS have always said they were going to serve, never have they once tried to get out of it, the government kept on trying to postpone it and drag it out in order to have BTS keep making more money for their economy, but the members had, had enough of the back and forth and made the decision for the governemt to just go. Also, all the members will be enlisted by this year and by the beginning of next year, literally by Jan 2024, they will all be in there. Yeah I know everyone is sad, but at the same time time flies by so fast, 2025 is going to come a lot faster then some people may think.

Jess Min

I always tear up when Namjoon looks so down, but we'll wait regardless for them. I'm not ready for Namjoon to go tbh. It hurts to think about and to go through this 5 more times...

Jin couldn’t be in the video because of the military service and what that means is that Jin was still active in the military and he took a day off to be there for J-hope. Because Jin was still active in his military duty, he couldn’t be on video. That’s also why he was in his uniform in picture.

RDM46

A lot of ppl said it lol.. Even on here.. And it kinda made sense.. I don't care what order they go in or when. I just want them to be comfortable and in the right state of mind when they leave. They'll have all our love and support

Mimi

I think namjoon said it on vlive that he was planning to enlist with Hobi if i remember correctly.

i agree that the members have always said they would go (in interviews and in their music.) we saw that in yoongi's "what do you think?" off d-2. however, i don't care, respectfully. mandatory military enlistment (in any case, in any country, etc.) is inhumane in some level. have u ever checked out "adult child" by seokjin, yoongi, and namjoon? its an unofficial subunit track (cover to common's ‘celebrate’ but the lyrics were written by namjoon and yoongi.) they talk about the struggles people their age (at the time, around 20ish) have to go through. how they expected adulthood to be something special and great but instead find themselves dealing with school, the real world/society, military enlistment, etc. i would recommend u check that out (ESPECIALLY yoongi's verse!!!!!) if u genuinely believe the members are enlisting with no concerns bc of something like their pride. no one, and i mean no one, would want to be forced to enlist. just because they always said they would and they stand by their word (as expected) doesn't mean it was easy. this reply isnt completely at op by the way. i just wanted to mention this bc its one thing to be like "the members will serve proudly" (which they will but ofc, its mandatory.) and its a whole other thing to be pro-military (sorry if u are but i just cant agree.) also namjoon did mention on vlive that he was planning to go with hoseok (same time only since they dont get to pick their base.) but he mentioned wanting to release another project (possible ep or maybe just a single) before he leaves since he started working on new music as soon as indigo dropped. however, he also mentioned "running out of time" when someone told him to rest. i wish him the best and although it sucks to see them go, im glad they wont have it hanging over their head anymore. people have been on their ass since seokjin turned 25. TWENTYFIVE. knowing damn well he had until he was thirty to enlist. okay im ranting now sorry lol but fuck that.

REECE

Why are you commenting this on my comment? I never said that the members didn't have any worries & I'm sorry but its not your place to say enlistment is 'inhumane' it's not your culture & you don't live there. Of course the members had worries, but still enlisting is still considered an honor & for a lot of people its taken as pride. You can be sad, you can have worries while STILL being prideful, no one said those things can't coexist together. Its not nice when you comment on someone else's way of living just so you know, the boys said they hope ARMYS would understand, military enlistment has always been a sensitive topic when it comes to BTS & we don't have a right to comment or assume how THEY are feeling so therefore instead of assuming & putting words in their mouths lets go based off what THEY told us from their own mouths, which is they take pride & it's an honor to serve THEIR country. Point, blank, period. I really hate it when people try to come up with stuff and try to assume how the members are feeling about certain situations, like lets just stick to the facts please and let's just stick to what they said

REECE

But you literally said in the video that you wished they would go in sooner do that they can get it over with quicker, unless that was a joke?

Monolover

Bc namjoon said on vlive that he was 😹😹 . Like he literally said he was supposed to go the same time as hobi

ARMYnotArmy

Yeah, Namjoon did say on a Live stream that the original plan that they had made was for him to go at the same time as Hobi- They would both have to enlist the same year anyway as they are born the same year. Though not exactly at the same time, also applying at the same time like they planned wouldn't mean they get to go into the same training facility or get posted at the same place. There are no guarantees for that kind of thing. You're absolutely right about them never once saying they wanted exemption. They had always plan to serve like any other male, never asked for exemption and most likely would not have accepted it even IF the government didn't choose to play with them by dangling it in front of them.

ARMYnotArmy

BTS never once asked for exemption- I will also say that while offering members to go to the states is a cute joke.... if they tried to leave the country to avoid Military enlistment- they could be jailed or banished. South Korea is still technically at war with North Korea- it's a very real fact, even though they're at a 'stand still' kind of.... North Korea can lose their minds at any moment and strike, that's why very few 'celebs' can get exemptions. There were only ever exemptions for certain Classical musical performers and Olympic athletes who had gold medals. Even then, not a lot of men were actually exempt since that law was in place. BTS were going to go at the end of their tour in 2020 but Covid kind of screwed it up- and luckily other Kpop companies used BTS as an example of why men in Kpop should get an exemption 'or an extension' and they granted BTS that extension because they-the government and cultural minister decided that in order to use this extension till enlistment you had to have received the Cultural merit award- an Award that takes most Koreans around 30 or more years to achieve, BTS became the first and only pop stars to receive the award and they are the youngest ever to receive it. All it permitted was for them to delay enlistment till they were 30 global age. This is why Jin would have had to enlist the end of last year no matter what, Yoongi has to enlist this year, Hobi and Namjoon would have to enlist next year, Jimin and Tae would have to enlist in 2025, and then JK wouldn't have to enlist till 2027 if I remember correctly. However, any male is able to register to enlist after they reach age 20. Men do enlist early so they can start their careers and focus on them without interruptions. My little cousin will be heading off next month even though he's only 23, he wants to get it done and out of the way- of course even if you enlist early there is a chance they may not have a spot for you and you have to wait till either next intake, or the next year if there's too many who are enlisting in the same year. In order to all be done by the end of 2025, all 7 members need to enlist by end of this year/first few months of 2024. As long as all of them go for Army so they only have to be there for 18 months after training which is only 5 weeks long. After training is when you get placed at a base and will be given base duties as well as 'job'. Jin was lucky and did well enough that he got approved to be an assistant to the drill Sargent(s) who train the new recruits. I'm sure the news will let us know what Hobi's job will be in time.... nosey mfers... seriously- The news(and I don't know how KBS and SBS manage to get these things), but I usually turn on the TV and eat breakfast at like 5am while my big cousin gets ready for work, we listen/watch the news and somehow they have pics of Hobi eating with his fellow trainees, they have pics of him in training, and I really wish they wouldn't do crap like that... like yeah, it's good to know he's doing well, he's making friends, and he's being treated well... and I kind of get why these news people are being given these pics and why the sargents and upper military people are taking them- It's to boost moral and boost the confidence of the men here who have yet to serve. While yes, serving is an honor thing, in the last 15 years it's not been something Korean men want to do, many do it because they know it's their duty and it's the law, but there are some who think it's time to retire the mandatory mandate on it, even though the threat of war breaking out is very real at any moment. Korean men know of the crap that has happened in the past 20 years to those who serve- the hazing that goes too far, the flat out bullying- we're not even talking about the stuff that has happened to celebs. It's changed a lot though, in the last 7-8 years so much has improved, but there are still some things that go unnoticed depending on who you are, where you're put, and who you're put with. Some Kpop fans don't like when I and others say this- But some.. not all, but SOME Kpop mistreatment is exaggerated(this has been confirmed and talked about in various articles and even some of the idols who tried this came out and said they exaggerated because they just didn't want to serve and didn't want other members to serve, some put blame on their companies too.), now why would they exaggerate? Because maybe if they have a large fandom, or multiple fandoms can come together and push the Korean government to allow kpop idols to be exempt... well it's worth a try, and most of the time it all is initiated by the companies, not the idols themselves. It never works by the way, and in fact we've seen in the last 4-5 years more Idols coming out happier, healthier, and some even releasing videos taken while enlisted of some fun things. More recently some have posted clips of the talent shows that take place, and idols usually join them. The reason for these things is for fun and to entertain the other soldiers. Plus you can win stuff like a day off and even a day of doing no chores. Again, this doesn't mean mistreatment doesn't happen, even with the special officers who monitor everything and even with rules and everything- things can still happen. It's not a guarantee though. The invasion of privacy seems to be the most common one that slips through. Because anyone in the same troop as an idol will have access to the belongings of that idol, and information that idol might share if they feel comfortable. And some of these troop mates see this info as a money maker. It's the sad truth, this is the most common thing that happens to Idols during enlistment. Any Girlfriends, ex lovers, private info like any hidden tats, piercings, down to if they shower or shave first. It's ridiculous, but it's something we just have to hope does not happen to our guys. Anyway, Namjoon will be enlisting next, and Yoongi will be enlisting once his tour is over. We don't know about the Maknae line though, they could enlist anywhere between now and the first few months of 2024. And yeah- While on active duty a soldier cannot be filmed, pictures can be taken, but not on video. So Jin was indeed really there, he just could not be shown in the video. Thanks for reacting to this. 💜💜💜

You are not a bad person, but remember every Korean male grew up knowing that they had to serve in the military. For us its new but it was always in their plans. It’s a rite of passage for all males.
