Someone already said this- but it was Kim Sung-won aka Sleepy - who is a rapper/producer and a TV personality, he was under TS Ent and PVO Ent. He frequented these small buildings/clubs.. most of them don't even qualify as clubs but more like teen and young adult hang out spots in SK. And he'd check out the talent there. He heard Namjoon live and then at some point after that, he was out drinking with PDogg because he's friends with him, and mentioned Namjoon. I guess Pdogg was talking about Big Hit trying to find real rap talents to start a rap group like Bang Si-Hyuk was wanting. So Pdogg put Bang onto Joon and Bang offered Joon a contract the first time he met him and had him rap for him. As for Tiger JK, his story is an interesting one. He grew up in Cali, he lived with his uncle who had him taking taekwondo at the place he owned where he was holding classes. The only thing is Tiger grew up in Cali in a prominently black neighborhood, he was the only asian there at the time and he made friends with some kids in his neighborhood by fooling them into thinking he was some martial arts expert lol. But he started a rap group with his friends and just kind of grew up in that environment... he said he 'accidentally' joined a gang(it was so fucking funny how he explained it), but he got out of it. He also actually did win a few championships in taekwondo in cali - which technically made him not a liar for claiming he was some hot shot taekwondo expert. It was a lot.. he explained this all to Eric Nam. Tiger JK doesn't usually open up, but Eric Nam is one of his few close friends who can get him talking. But anyway- back to Namjoon- So, imagine... it's late 2007, in the beautiful mountain hugged town of Ilsan- Little tween Namjoon is up 'studying'.... but he's really up writing his own lyrics while listening to one of his favorite K-Rappers- Drunken Tiger, aka Tiger JK. Fast forward to 2014-2015 when he got to meet that very rapper he admired so much, thanks to that rapper's wife... another very impressive rapper- Texas Born Korean American- Natasha Reid, aka Yoon Mi-Rae. All because she saw him at a music show and thought he had something and she wanted him on her group's song- Buckubucku. After that song, they stayed in touch. Tiger JK was impressed and still to this day claims RM made him change his mind about Idol Rappers, he's been giving a lot more Idol rappers a chance to prove themselves since he met RM. Before... an Idol rapper had a low chance of getting a reach out from Tiger JK. And he admitted it was his prejudice and it wasn't best overall for him to be that way.. he could have missed out on his friendship with RM if it wasn't for Yoon Mi-Rae though. This song was on Tiger JK's final album as Drunken Tiger. Many didn't think he was actually retiring, some thought he was... but many knew that he could never fully hang his hat up when he loves music too much. Tiger JK and his wife have their group, and they mentor others in their spare time, as well as they are also raising their own kids. ARMY knew this song meant a lot to Namjoon, it's not that Buckubucku wasn't a song he's proud of. It's that with Tiger JK reaching out to him and asking him of all the rappers in Korea that Tiger JK could have got.... he chose RM. Joon was elated and it's a collab he's been proud of. He's still a huge Tiger JK fan, and Tiger JK is his fan too. There's plenty of interviews where Tiger goes on about how impressive Namjoon is, and how good of a person he is to top it off. I've gone on long enough. So I'm just going to shut up now so I can watch the other drops lol. Thanks for reacting to this. 💜💜💜
